You read your book as you hear the clock tick. It's pitch black throughout the room and your only source of light is the window next to your bed. You see someone pop up from their bed and start heavily breathing. You take a few moments to realize it's Emma.
"Emma, are you okay?" You ask from across the room, trying to whisper but still be heard from her bed.
"Yeah... just a nightmare that's all" She says with a small smile, "what are you doing awake?"
"Oh, I can never fall asleep" You say with a shrug.
"Well you should probably try to sleep, see you in the morning" Emma says as she lays back down and turns over in her bed. You nod and turn to look out the window. You look at the sky and all the bright stars splattered in the deep blue. You can't help but think to yourself that maybe Conny, and all of your other siblings, might be looking at the same stars.

"Y/n, did you manage to fall asleep last night?" The ginger girl asks.
"Yeah, but only for a few hours" You say with a slight smile and a shrug. You look towards the doors of the dining room to see Norman and Ray walk in together. Ray walks in with his hand in his pockets, while Norman walks in with a smile. They stride up to you and Emma.
"Mark, can you set the table?" You hear Mom say. You watch as Emma and Norman turn to her, Emma's green eyes full of fear. You examine her reaction, and look to Norman to see he looks slightly thrown off too. Emma and Norman look at each other and after a moment Norman leans towards Emma's right ear and whispers something. You shift your eyes to Ray to see that he's done the same, his dark green eyes looking at your (e/c) ones with confusion.
"Oh by the way, did you guys catch up with Mom and Conny last night?" You ask. Emma starts to sweat a little as she shifts her gaze towards Norman.
"No, we were too late" Norman states, Emma looking back at me and nodding as she smiles.
"Aw thats too bad. I'm sure her new family will get her new toys anyways" You shrug, making Norman and Emma look at each other yet again. After breakfast, you go outside and sit in the field with six smaller children.
"Y/n! Can you tell us a story?" Alicia asks. You nod and the children shift in their spots, anticipating the story.
"Once upon a time, in a land far far away, there was a princess. The princess was very beautiful and had long (h/c) hair. She was the kindest and most loving person in the whole kingdom..." You start, the kids' eyes gleaming with curiosity.
"...in fact, she was so kind that every single person in the kingdom loved her. Because everyone loved her, the princess's mother got very jealous. Her mother locked her in the castle so that the princess couldn't speak to anyone outside of the royal family." You say, making hand motions as you tell the story.
"Oh no! What is she going to do?" Jemima gasps, hoping for a happy ending.
"Well...since the princess was a beautiful singer, she sang everyday in hopes that someone would hear her. On one fateful morning, a knight rode into the kingdom on a big white horse. He heard the princess's song and wanted to meet her. He searched across the kingdom, trying to find the lady with the beautiful voice. After not being able to find her, he started to give up but he realized it was the princess after seeing her sing from the window of her bedroom. He then raced to her window, but had no way of getting up to her!" You say, acting disappointed.
"How's he going to get up there! It's too tall!" Thoma says, standing on his tip toes and reaching his hand up to explain. Alicia, Jemima, and Lannion all shushed him. You laugh a little before getting back to the story.
"The knight decided to yell up to her, hoping she'll hear and notice him. He yelled to her and the princess heard him. The princess saw that the knight was very handsome and talked to him. He said that he loved her, and needed a way up to her window. The princess then let down her long, flowing hair and had the knight climb up it. Once he reached the top, he helped her escape the castle. The knight then revealed that he was a prince of a kingdom not too far from hers. The prince and the princess then ran off together to live in his kingdom, and they lived happily ever after" You finish, making the children cheer. You smile with them, but then you feel a tap on your head. You stay sat with your legs crossed but look up to see Ray looking down at you.
"Y/n, I need to tell you something" He says as he reaches out his hand. You nod and turn around to face him, putting your hand on his for support as he helps you up. Once you've stood up, he grabs your wrist and starts to lead you into the forest. You hum in confusion but he keeps his eyes on the forest in front of you. He leads you a few feet into the woods when he suddenly stops walking. He turns to you, looking over his shoulder.
"Where are we going?" You laugh "normally i'm the one dragging you around"
"The fence." He says as he stretches his arm out towards you again, but this time grabbing your hand instead of your wrist. He starts to lead you yet again further into the woods. Eventually the fence is in sight, but instead of stopping he hops over the fence, and you do the same.
'Wha?? Where is he taking me?'
He keeps his grip on your hand for about two more minutes until he stops. You look at what's standing before you.
"It's...a giant wall?" You say, stepping towards it and putting your right hand on it. You look up and see that the wall towers over you.
"It's concrete" Ray says as he leans his back against the large gray wall.
"But... why is this here?" You ask, turning towards him for an answer.
"Dunno. I overheard Emma and Norman talking about it, so I wanted to come and see for myself" He says as he shrugs with his arms crossed. You turn away from him and look up again. You can see where the wall ends, where it seems to connect with the overcast grey sky, but you can't see over it.
"Why would Emma and Norman come out here? Especially when Emma always says to follow Mom's rules" You say, placing your hand on your chin as you think. You see Ray walk closer to you but you suddenly hear the bell ring, meaning it's time for dinner. You look up at Ray and nod in unison. You grab his hand and sprint back towards the house, hopping the fence and running out of the woods. The last thing you want to do is make Mom ask why you took so long.
