"Let's set some rules in place, okay Xiao?" I say as I set up a tent. After we confirmed we'd be traveling together, we walked around until sunset. The whole time I was consumed with my thoughts, thinking about what I actually want to do and where I want to travel. He didn't speak the whole time, so it seemed he was in thought too.

He hummed in agreement. "No calling me your best friend."

I snap my head around. "What!? But...I thought I earned the friend title!"

He shook his head. "We are not friends."

"Travel...buddies?" I say cautiously.

He pondered for a minute before answering. "Whatever."

I almost squealed. "But, that's not what I meant. By rules I meant NO LEAVING EACH OTHER IN THE DUST!" I said a little loud, finishing setting up the tent.

"I think you should worry about me leaving you, mortal. After all, you're getting annoying."

"Exactly-wait, hey!" I whine.

"Mhm."

"Oh, that reminds me. Now that we're buddies-"

"Travel buddies." He mumbles.

"You should call me by my ACTUAL name!" I huff, standing up and dusting myself off.

"Oh, what is your name again???" He hums and I look at him.

"Are you serious!!!" I stomp up to him.

He scoffs. "For an annoying traveler like you, it's hard to remember any name." He pauses and looks at me, seeing that I'm fuming, he shakes his head. "I'm only kidding. Mortal Y/n."

I flash a toothy grin. "Next time, leave the mortal part out and you got it."

He looks away. My guy can't keep eye contact. "Refer to me as Vigilant Yaksha Xiao."

I hold back a laugh. "Yeah, okay. Sure. Not."

He rolls his eyes. "Are you done with that tent of yours? Took you long enough."

"Why yes I am. I made us enough room to be comfortable-"

Xiao holds a hand up to my face. "I am not sleeping with you."

My face heats up. "Well, sir, when you put it like that, that is not what I meant. I mean, where are you going to sleep!"

He cleared his throat. "I do not sleep. At least not a lot."

I stare at him. I can't believe this guy. First, he's hesitant about traveling with me, even after our deal. Almond Tofu for life. AND he likes to be alone. I, for one, do NOT. ANNND HE DON'T SLEEP?!

"What? Stop staring, it's rude."

I chuckle. "One day, I'll get you to sleep. It'll be a glorious rest."

"Whatever you say, dumb mortal." He sighs.

"Anyways," I stretch out the word. "Rule number two...I think. We MUST get along. I have...had bad experience with people before."

He raises an eyebrow at me. "Go on, I'm listening. Just because I'm not looking at you, doesn't mean I'm not listening."

AYOOO HE WANTS TO LISTEN!!!

I clear my throat. "When I was little, every kid I ended up around, we never got along well. I didn't get into fights or anything, but all the kids seemed better off without me. So...I felt quite distant and left out. But whatever. I grew to be used to it." I shrug. "But now that I met you, Xiao, I feel like we have things in common. So thank you for agreeing to travel with me. I have never felt so happy in a while."
