I make my way back inside, slipping off my shoes before going to sit on the couch. Dad comes into the room and looks around, seemingly looking for our guest.

"Where did Adeptus Xiao go?" He asks, sitting next to me.

"He went to visit Wangshu Inn. I'm sure he'll be back soon." I say.

"I see," Dad grins. "Wanna play a board game?"

"Oh yeah!" I exclaim. "Just us. No Yenay. She always gets mad when it doesn't go her way."

"Sure thing." Dad chuckles.

□■Xiao's POV□■

I land on top of Wangshu Inn, then slide down the roof onto the balcony. Verr Goldet greets me, but I just wave at her. I'm on a side mission right now, sorry Verr Goldet.

Y/n wants a dessert. They said any kind...but I still don't want to mess it up. Y/n has been kind to me, even when I have been an ass to them.

I discreetly head downstairs to Smiley Yanxiao's kitchen, dragging my hand against the railing so it doesn't seem like I'm creeping up on him. Why do I feel ashamed to come down here? I never have, and I never asked for any meals he has provided for me, but yet I feel weird to ask him for something. Perhaps it's because he is too kind and would whip me up any kind of meal if he heard my stomach growl.

Smiley Yanxiao turns his head, a huge smile spreads across his face when he spots me. "Adeptus Xiao! What a surprise. What can I do for you?"

Straight to the point, thank god. "Y/n wants a dessert. They said any kind, but I'm not sure what to get them."

"Oh, I see, I see," Smiley Yanxiao grins, clanging a spoon on the side of a pot, then placing it down on the counter. "Does Y/n have any preferences? Do they like chocolate, fruit, baked goods?"

"Y/n likes cake," I say, trying not to sound too mean. I always have a habit of sounding rude when I really don't mean to, but I just can't get out of that loop. "But they just ate some last night."

"Cake isn't so bad for dessert two days in a row," Yanxiao grins ear to ear. "I know the perfect recipe that'll make Y/n fall head over heels for you."

"What? That's not what- pardon me?" I swear I heard wrong.

"I said I know a perfect recipe that'll make Y/n really happy," Yanxiao says, smiling way too innocently. I hate it. It makes me feel like something is out of place. One different thing and it seems like all is wrong, if that makes any sense. "Stop by around evening. I'll have it done by then."

I nod my head curtly, sliding mora on the table behind Yanxiao before I vanish back to the rooftop. I don't feel like heading back to Y/n's house right now. Their home radiates negative energy, but I don't know if it's because of me or something else.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but if it isn't me, then its Yenay. There is something odd about that lady.

Her angry words and riled up attitude isn't just hate towards me or Y/n. It's a trauma response. And it makes me wonder how Y/n managed to grow up with her.

Why am I acting so concerned? I don't give a flying fuck. Not about Yenay. Not about her family.

Not about Y/n.

Or do I?

I furrow my eyebrows in confusion as I sit on top of the roof of Wangshu Inn. Staring off into the water, I finally find peace again. Places as calm and beautiful as the view of Wangshu Inn really puts my mind at ease. Watching over everything, watching, watching, waiting.
