Sleep? Yeah, I didn't know her last night. I tossed and turned, staring up at Luke's bed. My entire night seemed to stop, and he was no help! After our moment in the bathroom we stayed within two feet of Liz and my dad. Luke didn't talk to me. Didn't look at me! The next morning he was gone before I woke up.
I tried to think about where it went wrong. I mean it was all kinda ideal and perfect, but Luke seemed to disappear. The little I did see of him, he wasn't rude, just didn't acknowledge my existence.
We continued this pattern for the next three days.
Friday came around, and I was in the kitchen washing dishes. Luke and Connor were in school, everyone else was at work, leaving me and Jack home alone.
Jack came around the corner, dressed much nicer than usual. His regular attire consisted of gym shorts and hoodies. Today he was wearing jeans and a plain, black, long sleeve shirt. Obviously Jack wasn't going running.
"Going out?" I glanced back at him, "look nice."
"Thanks," he ran his hands down his shirt, making sure there was nothing on it. "I got a job interview, and after that I got a date," I dropped a spoon into the sink, spinning around to look at him. He laughed at my reaction, "what?"
"How come I didn't know about this?" I knew Jack had been on his phone a lot lately, but I had no idea there was a girl in the picture. I'm happy for him. Jack is a super friendly guy and deserves someone special.
"Well she's a friend of mine. God, we've been friends for as long as I can remember. Her and her long term boyfriend just broke up, so I figured I'd take her out. You know, try to make her feel better."
"That's adorable," I went back to my dishes, with a slight smile.
Jack walked over and leaned his back against the counter. He crossed his arms, looking down at me pretty intensely. I cut my eyes up to him a bit confused, "shouldn't you be going?"
"She's picking me up," it was silent again. Jack was still staring down at me. I tried to ignore him. Apparently I'm not as good at ignoring people as Luke.
"What?" I finally broke. He chuckled , shaking his head, then he looked at me knowingly, but what could he know? He raised his eyebrows as if he was trying to tell me something.
My body froze as the realization sank in, "oh my god. You know." Jack held his chest, while he proceeded to laugh his ass off. At some point he actually wheezed. What he found hilarious, I couldn't see the humor in, "how the hell do you know?"
He wiped away a few stray tears, "he told me."
"He what?" I gasped.
"Luke told me," Jack continued to laugh.
What the hell was Luke thinking?
Why would he tell Jack?
Why would he tell anyone?"It's okay," Jack pulled me into a side hug, "don't get upset. It's alright." It wasn't alright! Who else did he tell? "I won't tell anyone," Jack reassured me.
I scratched my forehead, getting soap in my hair, "what else did he tell you? Did he tell you he's been ignoring me for the last three or four days. More importantly, did he tell you why?" Honesty, I thought the kiss was pretty great. Maybe he thought otherwise.
