"Earth to Luke!" Michael threw a paper ball at me. I shook my head, sitting up a little straighter, "and welcome back to the table."

"Sorry," I brushed my hair forward with my hand.

"Be nice," Crystal scolded him.

"What's going on behind those deep blue eyes you gorgeous man," Calum exaggerated his words with his hands.

"Thinking about how you fucked up," Elizabeth hissed, biting a harsh chunk out of her apple.

"Look I had to do something okay," I frowned, knowing she was right. "I just miss her so much, and she won't answer my calls," it was like she vanished, and the only conclusion my mind could come to was that she ran away.

"Doesn't justify what you did," Elizabeth's voice was drenched in venom. She truly hated me.

"We all make mistakes," Michael tried to defend me. I didn't deserve defending. He didn't know the depths of my mistakes.

"I don't get why it's taking so long for Daniel's lawyer to call us back," I shoved my tray away, not feeling very hungry. I could feel it in the pit of my stomach. Something was wrong.

Elizabeth's phone went off. At first she gave it a quick glance, but then she was fully invested in whatever was happening.

"Look Kaytlin will understand if you're honest with her, but I don't think she's gonna like it very much," just like Michael Crystal was completely oblivious to how big my mistake was. They all were. All except Elizabeth. What started as good intentions, ended as a poor decision. Bottom line was I fucked up!

"Luke, what's your mom's phone number?" Elizabeth asked randomly. Her voice wasn't friendlier, but she seemed to have set her personal anger towards me aside for whatever reason.

"Why?" I raised an eyebrow at her. Her question caught me off guard.

Calum glanced down at her phone. The two exchanged a concerned look. "Elizabeth has a friend named Danny who lives in America. Turns out her and Kaytlin go to the same school," he pulled out his phone, retrieving my mom's number for her.

My heart stopped, "is something wrong?"

"I don't know," Elizabeth was lying, and everyone could tell, "she just asked for Liz's number."

"What happened to Kaytlin?" Michael cautiously asked what we were all wondering.

Elizabeth read over the text, "I'll ask. Maybe she'll respond. It's pretty late there."

That's what this feeling was! It was Kaytlin. I left everything at the lunch table and ran down to the office. I waved my phone to the lady at the front desk and stepped out into the entryway. I called Kaytlin twice, each time it went straight to voicemail. Then I called my mom.

"Luke?" She answered. Surprised that I called her during school hours.

"Mom, I think somethings wrong with Kaytlin," I confessed, "we've got to go to America!"

"Luke, we've talked about this. She'll be home soon enough. I know you're upset because we can't get a hold of her, but you've got to focus on your school work. Let us handle this," Liz was done with the conversation. She was done with me. I've been shutting down in Kaytlin's absence, falling back into old habits. They were disappointed.
