The light knocking was getting annoying. 'Knock, knock' over and over again. At first I thought it was room service, but when they didn't go away I realized it had to be Liz or Daniel.

I slid out from under Luke. Prying his arms off my body. I woke him up this morning for breakfast, hoping to spend time with him without  Liz watching us. After breakfast we returned to our room and found some cheap movie that was playing, which Luke fell asleep during.

"Katie, Hi. Good morning," Liz smiled when I opened the door. She looked exhausted, "where's Luke?" She peaked over my shoulder, looking back at me when she couldn't see her son.

"He's taking a nap," I shifted my weight onto one foot, leaning against the door. I noticed the bags under her eyes and wondered if she got any  sleep last night. "Where's dad?" I cleared my throat awkwardly.

"He's not feeling well. I think he might have food poisoning! It started about an hour after we got back to our room; I just now got him to sleep. This whole trip's been sorta of a bust for him. I know he wanted you kids to have a good time," Liz spoke with her hands. Twirling a ring around her right index finger.

"He can't help he's sick," I shrugged, not wanting either of them to feel bad.

"Well there's a theme park up the road he wanted to take you guys to. That was the big surprise! He was hoping to spend two days doing that and a third just relaxing at the hotel, but then the SUV broke down and now he's sick. Hopefully we'll be able to go tomorrow! But," she paused, sighing, "I'm not sure. I guess you guys are kinda on your own for the day. Here," Liz handed me some folded up cash, "you two just go out and enjoy yourselves, and we'll try to get to the park tomorrow."

I crushed the money in my hand, nodding along. "Is that okay?" Liz tilted her head, biting her lip anxiously.

"That's fine," I tried to perk up some, "just hope he's okay." Her head bobbed in agreement. "You should get some rest Liz. You look exhausted. Me and Luke will figure something out. Bring you guys back some dinner."

"That'll be great," she grabbed my shoulder and kissed my forehead, leaving me stunned as she walked away. Yesterday I thought I overstayed my welcome, today she kissed my forehead as if I was her child.

"Kaytlin?" two large hands grabbed my arms, making me jump. Luke poked his head out catching his mom getting on the elevator. "What did she want?"  He yawned, waving tiredly at her.

"Daniel's sick, Liz is tired, so it's just the two of us today. We've got some money to do whatever," I held up the wadded up cash, "how was your nap?"

"Good. Till I woke up and you weren't there," I smiled, slipping from his reach, and sitting on his bed. Luke sat down beside me, "so what's our plans for today?"

"I don't know," I handed him the cash and laid back on the bed, "what did you have in mind?"

"I mean we could do anything really," I hummed in agreement. Luke leaned back on his arm to look down at me, "Kaytlin?"

I raised an eyebrow at him, "yes Luke?"

"Go on that date with me," it was more of a statement than a question.
