summer!!
/ a note before the chapter starts; i would love to say thank you so much for reading and going through the journey of viridity, however it is coming closer to an end ;( let's enjoy what is next to come, and i hope you are all staying safe!
standing on his toes, renjun kissed jeno's cheek and wrapped his arms around his boyfriend's neck, rubbing his nose into the taller's jaw
"be safe on the flight darling," jaemin hugged the pup from behind, arms around his lithe waist
renjun nodded, giggling as he was sandwiched between his boyfriends
he pouted as his flight was announced
"i'll ring you when i land! gege is going to pick me up at the airport so i'm fine from there" he smiled, turning to face his mother who was watching with fond eyes
"i'll see you soon mama, i love you" he hugged her, and she kissed the top of his head
"i love you too sweetie, have fun okay?" he nodded, before taking his suitcase from jaemin and leaving to the gate, waving them goodbye before disappearing onto the plane
"you've grown so much!" renjun giggled, hugging his auntie close as his cousin put his luggage in the car boot
"i missed you so much auntie, gege" he pouted, quickly hugging his ge before they hopped in the car
"i don't know if you still enjoy it but we've got some cooking and gardening that needs being done" kun, renjun's cousin, suggested
"oh- i love it! i cook with mama alot and i've been planting some vegetables and flowers in the garden" he smiled, eyes sparkly
"that's wonderful renjunnie, we also are going to have some friends come over in a few days, you don't have to meet them if you wish but you're definitely free to" renjun's auntie smiled, turning around briefly
"i'd be happy to meet them," renjun smiled, nodding and leaning his head on the car window as the sound of the music became drowned out by his fatigue
"this is renjun? he's so cute" kun laughed and nodded in agreement
"renjun-ah this is my co-worker minghao" renjun bowed and smiled at the new face
"kun talks about you a lot, i'm glad to be meeting the face behind all the talk" minghao laughed, ruffling renjun's hair and smiling fondly as the younger giggled shyly
"guys, we're just going out to the pool, renjun you can join us if you like" the omega tipped his head to the side, before he shook his head gently
"i'm gonna sleep auntie - we've been busy this last week" she hummed, kissing the top of his head and letting him leave upstairs
after quickly sorting his clothes, renjun dressed himself in pyjamas and pulled his laptop out of his suitcase, logging in and video calling jaemin (knowing jeno had broken his laptop during a makeout session with their younger boyfriend only two days prior), turning the main lights off and the lamp on as he yawned cutely
"baby!" he giggled instantly after hearing the voice, smiling as jaemin's face appeared on the screen, jeno laid on his back with his face buried into his neck "you tired pretty?" he nodded, setting his laptop on the mattress before laying down
"ge and auntie have some friends over but 'm sleepy" his words came out slurred, turning to lay on his stomach as he rest his cheek on the pillow, watching as jaemin smiled at him
"you didn't have to call if you were that tired pup" jeno's voice made renjun giggle, but he pouted afterwards
"but i already miss you~" he whined, subconsciously wriggling his butt and releasing a huff as jaemin tutted
"stop whining, you told us you weren't gonna whine when you left" renjun only stuck his tongue out at jaemin and laid back still, rubbing his eyes
"you gonna fall asleep baby face?" jeno smiled, sighing happily as his omega nodded slightly "stay still and close your eyes, if you wake up in the middle of the night call one of us, hm?" renjun pouted
"don't wanna annoy you" he mumbled, pulling the covers up to his shoulders as he laid on his side facing his laptop, eyes half-open
"you'll never annoy us baby, donghyuck and chenle have come over anyway and they've just shared a tub of sweets so i don't think we're going to sleep any time soon" renjun giggled and nodded, mouthing a 'good night' before letting himself drift off
the digital clock on the bedside table blinked with a bright green, renjun rubbed his eyes and sighed after noticing the numbers read out a ridiculous 4:01AM
he laid in bed for a moment, contemplating on whether or not to do as jeno had told
he sat up, rubbing his eyes and yawning before he swung his legs over the side of the bed, shaking his head and slipping his feet into his fluffy slippers and standing
feet dragging against the wooden floor, the omega shuffled into the connected bathroom to the guest room and stood still for a moment as he let himself wake up
his phone buzzing made him jump, hurrying into the room to unlock his phone
"minnie?" he answered the call, returning to the bathroom after collecting his wash bag and a towel
"hi baby, did you sleep well?" he blinked, turning on the shower before he sat on the counter
"i just woke up nana.. have you slept?"
"not for long baby doll, but jen insisted i call you because he felt you had woken up" renjun giggled
"is he with you?"
"he's in the bathroom, are you getting in the shower love?"
"mhm"
"i'll talk to you soon angel, have a good day"
"you too minnie, i love you"
"i love you too puppy" renjun ended the call and smiled, hopping off of the counter and pulling his pyjamas off
"junnie honey, are you ready to do some gardening?" xiaori, kun's mama and renjun's auntie, entered holding a pair of gardening gloves and a little basket, "i've brought you some gloves and seeds to plant- kun is already outside just filling the watering cans"
"thankyou auntie~" renjun giggled, quickly hugging xiaori, collecting the items and waddling outside into the back garden
"hi puppy ren, you ready?" he nodded quickly
"yep!" the younger giggled, hugging the beta before they got to work
xiaori hummed to herself as she washed a few dishes, her heart swelling as the two youngsters outside messed around and hugged each other whilst giggling and planting some vegetable seeds
kun had missed renjun as much as renjun had missed him; the last time renjun having visited was around three years prior when he was only fourteen. kun had travelled to seoul for a few days to visit renjun and his adoptive family before returning to jilin with renjun for a few more days to spend the last few days of the winter holidays with his cousin he adored so much
after the very eventful few weeks that lead to renjun's adoption, xiaori was almost sure she and her son would never see the boy again. however, renjun's adoptive mum, jiyoung, had contacted the adoption centre when renjun had turned seven in search of his aunt (his only other family) so they could be connected again
jiyoung met xiaori in seoul a week later, and after the confirmation that the latter would be no harm to her son, she happily allowed renjun to meet with both xiaori and kun, and learnt the whole story of how renjun came to be put into care
it was the most heartbreaking thing she had ever come to know, how xiaori had described the events with such detail and pain made her cry without realising
the door knocking made her eyebrows raise in curiosity, frowning as another set ot knocking came, but more harsh and desperate
she quickly dried her hands before rushing to the entrance and opening the door, eyes widening in horror at who stood before her
"where's our son?"
