The old saying, 'never judge a book by its cover.  Jane would go to work everyday to serve, protect and solve homicides.   Each time a drug homicide case she was called up, her heart would race like crazy.  Her unit which included Geeky aka Jennifer, Frost, Korsak,  and the Chief Examiner, Maura.
Tommy was her and Frankie's youngest sibling. He got involved with the wrong crowd after her parents marriage was crumbling in front of their eyes. Her MA was forever making excuses for him which would irritate her father. Tommy was the cause of many arguments,  yelling matches,  broken windows and dishes as well as items stolen and sold for easy cash.
With Janr being the eldest, her  PA, would put the blame on her.

"Jane I work to provide for our family. It is your job to help your MA." I was tired of hearing this and had enough.  I was new to homicide division but was making a name for myself quickly.  I finally told my brother, Frankie, who was a beat cop who graduated from the academy a little over a year that I was moving out. I encouraged him to move out too.I  returned from my double shift and had packed my belongings the night before.  PA came home drunk again starting in on me. I told both my parents that "I am tired of being your escape goat. You will have to do this on your own. I have asked Frankie to move out, but he won't at this time because the guilt MA- you expect us to help Tommy constantly.  We are all adults, I  won't be the glue for this family anymore. Your two actions will eventually give Frankie the courage to move out too.  Start being the adults and stop relying on us. PA your just as fault for Tommy. You always worked and went out drinking with your buddies than spending time with Tommy when he needed a positive role model instead of a drunk of father. PA don't even think of hitting me, I will not hesitate to arrest you for hitting an officer. I still love you both, but I am done." My pa was raising his voice telling me he was  a great father and have always been their for all of us. "You have no idea what I go through on a daily basis." My MA was crying because she knew deep down in her heart everything I stated was true.  Pa was cussing at me and telling me I wasn't part of this family anymore. Frankie I guess gave what I discussed with him at work some thought.  I didn't know on his lunch time, he returned in the squad car and he and his partner had packed his belongings in his truck bed already.  Frankie's truck bed had a solid hard shell lock cover so I didn't know he had packed up already.  PA continued to yell. Frankie told PA for the first time in his life. "PA you were there for Jane and I. You were never there for our little brother, Tommy. Do you know how embarrassing it is for Jane and I at work constantly because of Tommys screw ups. Each time,  he is arrested MA bails him out and you continue to ignore him. He doesn't have a father who cares and supports him. PA the only thing you ever did was provide sperm to get MA pregnant. I am moving out too.  I have not found a place ,but I refuse to be your verbal punching bag." PA was getting angrier at the moment.  He took a swing at Frankie, Frankie swung back so hard that he knocked him out.  MA was crying.  "Please don't leave me. I need my kids. I am nothing without you. "

Jane said, "MA you are more than that. With the past several years I have seen you decrease from a strong woman to a fragile woman who tolerates PA's behavior.  Once you are ready to be strong again,  seek me out. But for now MA you have  a bully and a no good husband who treats you like crap.  I love you MA." As I was walking to go upstairs to get my belongings,  Frankie was talking to MA. "Frankie you can stay with me for awhile as long as you don't mind sleeping on a couch.  It's not much but its something. " "Thanks Jane, I will follow you to our new place. " We both gave MA a hugged and said we loved her and left.
