30|| Hidden Feelings

Sometimes, we must be apart to see that we are better together.

With shaking hands, Nora tapped Andrew’s number and called him. It rang twice before he answered the call. Neither of them spoke.

“Andrew?”

“Nora.”

A short silence engulfed them. So many words they wanted to say but they couldn’t find the right words. Up “Why-why did you call?” Andrew asked cautiously.

“Can we…” Nora gulped, “meet?”

“Where?”

“At the start of the street of Stella’s house.”

“I’ll be there, 6pm.”

Nora nodded, “Okay.” They stayed on the line for a while not saying a word before hanging up.

At 6pm sharp, Nora arrived at the start of the street. She spotted Andrew leaning on the dashboard of his car looking thoughtful as he frowned.

“Andrew,” She called out and Andrew looked at her. Nora stepped closer and stood in front of him. “Hi.”

“Hi…” Andrew replied breathlessly as he stared.

They stared at each other unsure of what to say and what to expect.

“I’m sorry” Nora apologized, looking down embarrassed. “I…I was scared, I panicked. Roxy had found out and it made me question our relationship.”

“It made me question if it was all worth it, If we would still be together long enough to tell my parents about us.” Nora sighed, “I just didn’t want this to be all for nothing.”

Andrew opened his mouth to speak but Nora wasn’t done.

“I thought it all through and I discovered what I truly wanted. To be with you, no matter what the future holds for us,” She continued.

“I know I hurt you and that I’m not as mature as most women your age” Nora paused, “it’s okay if you hate me. I understand that since I caused you so much pain. I don’t deserve–”

“Shut up.”

“What?” Nora looked up at Andrew in confusion as quickly as he hugged her.

“I said shut up” Andrew repeated, his voice muffled in her shoulders. “I am the only one who gets to decide if you are my girlfriend or not.”

Nora felt slightly relieved to hear that. “I was hurt, I understood your insecurities but it still hurt. It felt unfair” Andrew poured out his heart. He stepped back to look at her,  “Nora, I have never been dishonest with you and I never will.  I have always been intentional with you.”

“You…” Nora was aware but she was still rendered speechless to hear it.

Andrew gazed at her tenderly, caressing her cheeks softly. “I love you Nora. I realized it more when we were apart.”

Nora smiled with happy tears. “I love you too, and thank you.” She put her arms around him in a hug. “I missed you so much.”
