I was practicing how to walk too. I believe that now. One day, when I can walk much farther on my own...I will go see her.
=====
The next day, Stella didn’t go to the office and refused to face her mother or any member of the family. They had blatantly lied and kept a big secret from her for their own personal interest.
She didn’t know how soon she would be able to forgive them.
She left for the police station after resting to give her report and drove to the hospital from there to see Brandon.
“I wonder what Brandon likes,” she thought aloud as she walked into the hospital carrying a flask in a nylon bag.
She took a deep breath in front of the door to his ward about to knock when she heard a familiar feminine voice.
“Megan” Stella widened her eyes and a cold look appeared on her face.
‘What is she doing here?’ she thought angrily, tempted to peek in but the door creaked open and she found herself facing Megan and Brandon.
“Stella” Brandon said surprised.
Stella couldn’t even muster a smile, fixing a glare at a subdued Megan and Brandon followed her gaze. He lightly nudged Megan.
“Right,” she returned to reality, looking at Brandon and Stella. “I will go now, bye.”
“Bye” Brandon answered and Megan walked away past Stella. Stella watched her leave and turned to Brandon. “I didn’t know you were coming.”
“Expect me everyday,” Stella simply replied in a chilly manner and started bringing out the flask. “have you eaten?”
“Why? Did you get me something?” Brandon gave her a cheeky look.
Stella gave him a blank look. “I still haven't forgiven you. Once you are out of the hospital, you and I have nothing more to do with each other.”
“And you and Megan really suit each other. I saw you two that day, were you talking about how to lie to me? You two were even so close, have you forgotten you have a girlfriend–Ow!” Stella ranted when Brandon suddenly pulled her.
Stella blinked taken aback to see Brandon‘s face close.
“Megan and I will never have anything going and I am sorry I lied to you Stella,” Brandon apologized sincerely. “I was selfish and only thinking about myself. I deceived myself thinking I was protecting you.”
Stella stared speechless unable to respond and Brandon held her gaze, an odd mood falling over them. Brandon's hand found it’s way to Stella's face and his thumb stroked her cheek.
“Brandon…”
“Hmm.” His gaze flicked to her lips and back to her face uncertainly.
Stella's heart pounded loudly in her chest at the look in Brandon’s eyes. She couldn’t bring herself to look away despite how wrong it felt.
It was a small desire not worthy of mention but, she really wanted to feel Brandon's lips on hers. Stella tensed at the thought, clutching the side of the bed and suddenly, Brandon let her go.
“Th-thank you for the food,” He swallowed hard, taking the food and averting his eyes. Stella stared at him stunned but he didn’t look up.
“Oh, uh. You're welcome,” Stella regained her sense of reality and sat down fidgeting with her fingers.
