At the Esoro mansion, Chinaza was taking a walk around the compound with Fred. Putting most of her weight on Fred, she was able to walk in a straight line.

“The moon is so beautiful Fred, I love it” Chinaza sighed, staring softly at the moon. She kept her head on his shoulder, “Fred?”

“Yes?”

“Tell me about yourself.”

“What about myself? What do you want to know?”

“Everything.”

Fred felt a bit hesitant but opened up. “I don’t really know where to start…I grew up in Ondo state, I grew up well,  I had a good childhood. I studied political science but I always had a thing for getting physical. I like action. I also have an elder sister.”

“Really?” Chinaza asked shocked.

“Yeah” Fred smiled amused, “she is married and has a kid. She is expecting the second one.”

“How old are you?!” Chinaza gaped, poking his stomach.

Fred laughed, ignoring her question and continued, “my younger brother is still at school. He is studying law.”

“Wow” Chinaza said in admiration. “Why did you choose this job? To become a bodyguard, it is kind of a risky job.”

“It pays well” Fred shrugged, “and I like the action, the thrill. Many people don’t trust the police and soldiers as the people government control for their gain, and maybe it is true. I just want to be someone they trust and protect them.”

Chinaza stared at him with a faraway look in her eyes. “That’s so nice of you it’s almost unreal.” she said amazed, “you are an intense man Frederick.”

Fred smiled amused, “that is an interesting compliment. I just want to make a difference Chinaza. I wanted to make a difference by protecting you and your family, I wanted to feel like I have done something to help.”

“That is so sweet of you” Chinaza said still in surprise.

“Yes, but I failed” Fred said troubled. “we couldn’t save miss Cassandra, I couldn’t save her. We failed in protecting your family.”

“Fred, no one could have known. No one expected it” Chinaza consoled him, “I know if you had a chance to save her, you would do it in a heart’s beat.” She added, “Besides, the police haven’t caught the murderer in the past four to five years.”

Fred laughed a bit and Chinaza smiled. She stared at his face as if memorizing it and her gaze dropped to his lips. She leaned closer, shutting her eyes.

Fred stared at her dazed, “W-what are you doing?”

“Shhh…” Chinaza hushed and brushed her lips against his softly. Fred stared at her wide eyed but did not move away.

He slowly shut his eyes and kissed her back not thinking about the consequences that would follow.
