Eren's POV:
I spent the next twenty minutes or so angrily scrubbing the kitchen while cursing to myself. I still wasn't sure if this was a mistake. (Y/N) had looked so... hurt.
My train of thought was interrupted by my phone buzzing. I picked it up and answered the call: "Hello?"
"Eren—" It was Mikasa. "— Why is Jean outside of our house?"
"Eh?" I asked, throwing on my sweatshirt and grabbing the keys to lock up for the night.
"Jean. He's outside. Did you invite him here?"
"No."
"Then, why is he here?" she asked in a monotone voice.
"How would I know, Mikasa?!" I replied agitatedly. "Why don't you just go outside and tell him to leave?"
"I don't want to talk to him."
I scoffed. "Why not?"
"If he's here for me, I don't want to be the one to turn him down again."
"Mikasa," I groaned. "That was in sixth grade. I don't think that's going to be an issue."
"Fine. I'll answer the door. Stay on the line, though."
I sighed in response, listening through the phone as the door clicked open and Mikasa greeted Jean. I couldn't make out what they were saying; it was mostly indistinct static mumbling. Finally, Mikasa returned to me.
"Jean wants to talk to you. I told him no."
"Mikasa!" I seethed. "You're not my mom!! I can answer myself! Give Jean the phone."
"Eren?" he asked after taking the phone from Mikasa.
"Yes. What do you want?"
"I need to talk to you."
"I'm busy."
"At work?"
"Yes."
"Be there in five," Jean said, hanging up.
"Shit. I don't have time for this," I complained, turning off the lights and locking up the bakery. I debated about leaving now to avoid Jean, but thought better of it. He'd probably confront me later anyway. I sighed. It's been a long night.
I leaned up against the brick wall, arms folded across my chest and hood up to block the cold. I saw Jean emerge from the shadows as the street light illuminated his face.
"What do you want, Jea—"
"IDIOT!" he bellowed, punching me in the face.
I toppled over and smacked my head into the cold concrete. I pushed myself up and rubbed my head, trying to see where Jean was standing. My vision was blurry from the impact.
"What is wrong with you?!" I yelled back, steadying myself against the wall as I stood up.
Jean brought his arms up to shield himself from me. "What's wrong with me?? What's wrong with you, moron!"
I was too tired to punch him back. Noticing this, Jean dropped his arms and took a step away from me.
We stood there for a moment, neither of us moving. Jean stared me down, his eyes turned to slits as he chewed on his lower lip. I felt the cheek Jean had hit begin to swell.
"So, are you going to tell me why you stopped by?" I asked annoyedly.
"I talked to (Y/N). She told me what happened."
