What is Social Anxiety?
(SAD-Social Anxiety Disorder)
Social Anxiety is a mental health condition in which social interactions cause irrational anxiety. People who have this disorder deal with this everyday. Such persons who deal with SAD due to social interactions commonly have irrational anxiety, fear, self-consciousness, and embarrassment.What is it like to live with SAD?
{As someone who lives with social anxiety, I can only speak for what I have heard/researched and my personal experiences} Social interactions commonly cause panic/anxiety attacks, heavy and shallow breathing and other unusual breathing patterns. Social interactions can often cause me to starting crying and trigger a panic attack. I tend to freak out knowing I have to talk. It's terrifying! It's not just being shy and not liking to talk, it's being terrified of any social interaction!Tips for Social Anxiety:
1) try to find or bring someone you know and trust to larger interactions if possiable
2)Practice talking to people (with family or just a mirror)
3)Think of ice breakers or conversation starters
4)Don't be afraid to mention your condition (you don't have to; you could say your shy if u want)
5)Listen to other's conversations to hear topics mentionedExample:
[Sorry, I'm not good at talking with people! I am an introvert, shy, and have social anxiety]Conclusion: Social Anxiety is a real issue that many people deal with. It's not something to be ashamed of. While it can be difficult to live with, there are strategy's you can use to help you! You have to learn your own boundaries and work around that.
