Chapter 22: First Event
John
It'd been a week since Sherlock disappeared.
There'd been rumors flying around about him and it drove John wild.
They were all ridiculous, not like Sherlock at all.
"Hey, John." Molly slipped beside him, interrupting his thoughts.
"Hey, Molly." John and Molly had grown close over the week Sherlock had been absent and John had noticed that Molly was somehow like Sherlock - but calmer and less terrifying.
"So, have you heard from Sherlock?" Molly asked.
John sighed and shook his head in dismay.
"Nope. No one has heard from him and it's been a week. I'm actually starting to get worried."
On queue, Molly sorted and laughed at John, shaking her head.
"What's so funny?" John asked.
"Nothing, John," Molly said, a grin etched on her face. "It's just that from the start, you've always been worried."
"No, I wasn't!" John felt his cheeks burning hot, which he wanted to slap himself for. Why couldn't humans control where their blood rushed?
"Oh, and," Molly's smile morphed into something more serious, making John anxious, "Joshua and Lisa are nowhere to be seen either."
The first thing to come to mind was that they were somewhere very private; doing things they weren't supposed to do.
His second guess was just as PG16, but in a less pleasant way; it was the idea that Moriarty had kidnapped them both, holding them hostage.
"Did you try calling them?" John asked, trying to keep his voice steady.
"Yah," Molly said. "Couldn't be reached."
"Crap." John's thoughts were racing, trying to figure things out.
He was scared. He didn't want to lose more friends-if Sherlock even regarded him as a friend.
"Can I ask you a favour?" John asked.
"What is it?" Molly asked.
"You're in my next class, right?" Molly nodded. "Tell the teacher I'm sick and I'll just stay in bed."
"You're not really sick, are you?" Molly said.
"No. But I'm getting a headache from all these thoughts," John replied.
The bell rang and students rose to go to their next classes. Molly did so too and waved John goodbye.
John waved back and left too, however, for the fields. He wasn't sure what to do anymore, all the drama made it impossible to even stop to think. But in a way, he loved it. Loved the adrenaline that shot through his veins whenever he and Sherlock barely escaped death, when they chased Moriarty or he them, at times it was hard to tell.
He couldn't blame Sherlock for dragging him into all those adventures. After all, no matter how much he complained, he too enjoyed them. And he knew that Sherlock knew that.
John sat on the grass and closed his eyes. It wasn't very sunny, but some stray sun rays warmed him, creating red circled beneath his closed eye lids. Suddenly, he felt someone sit beside him.
He opened his eyes and saw Sebastian Moran sitting there, looking dazed.
He was wearing a pristine tux and his hair was slicked back instead of the messiness John had last seen him. And he looked calm. Eerily calm. It troubled John.
"Sebastian?" he asked.
"Hello John," Sebastian's voice was tired and frail, like he had been shouting all day.
"What... what happened to you?" John asked.
"Oh, I seem to have lost my sister. She ran away when she found out what I do." Sebastian smiled, but his smile looked broken. Paired with the emptiness in his face, vacant eyes that were still focused, it frankly scared the crap out of John. Sebastian looked like a madman.
"Are... are you okay?" John asked.
"No. No, I'm not," Sebastian said, reaching to his pocket. "I'm going to die later anyway, so I'll bring you to Moriarty first."
Before John was able to react, Sebastian had takem a gun from his pocket and hit it against John's head.
"Sweet dreams!"
