Chapter 10: Open Up

John

John Watson was probably the most forgiving person ever to walk the Earth aside from Jesus. But then again, Sherlock wasn't very religious.

"So, you decide to save my ass, but you're the one who needs comfort?" John asked, sitting in his bed. The two had decided it was best they go to John's room tonight.

"It was a momentary acceptance of defeat," Sherlock mumbled.

"You guys better not get in trouble. I might get dragged into it," Joshua said.

"Of course not, mate," John chuckled. "But if we do, I'll give you one of my books."

Joshua looked at the stack of books beside John's bed curiously, before nodding reluctantly.

"Fine. But I want the Lord of the Rings," he said.

"Deal." John turned away from the nerd and back to Sherlock.

"Since I know you're my friend - for real," John gave Sherlock a look that meant 'if you're just acting, I will kill you' that made Sherlock gulp. "I think it's best that I know what you want to be when you grow up."

"I'm going to be a consulting detective," Sherlock replied automatically.

"What?" John didn't know what the hell a consulting detective was. But he was pretty sure that it meant Sherlock would be the big guns on a case.

"The police- or people, who have cases, go to me if they or the police can't figure it out." John was right. Sherlock was the secret weapon, which would seem ignored most of the time. It would only be used when Sherlock was really needed on the battle grounds.

"That means you're my Doctor," Sherlock said, lying down on John's bed.

"What?" John wanted to lie down on his bed next the boy, but unfortunately, at the moment, no homo.

"You're my medic? The bystander who makes sure no one gets hurt? I don't need people getting hurt during my cases," Sherlock said dismissively.

"But- I'm just a beginner, Sherlock! I'm not a full blown experienced Doctor. I only know the simplest things," John exclaimed.

"That's fine. It's better if someone has them rather than no one," Sherlock replied.

"Hey, what the bloody hell is going on here?" Lestrade walked in and looked at them. Oh shit.

"Lestrade, to be honest, we're discussing very important things," Sherlock said, standing up. It looked like he was trying to intimidate Lestrade.

"Discuss it tomorrow. Go back to your dorm, Sherlock!" Lestrade said angrily. "I'm letting you off this time."

"Oh, whatever." Sherlock rolled his eyes and walked out of John's room.

Lestrade looked at John angrily before exiting.

"That must be an awful lot of trouble to go through for some boy," Joshua suddenly said.

"What? I- I'm not-"

"John, please. It's as clear as the dawn." Joshua shifted on his bed. "He's new, but I can tell he'll break you. So please, be careful."

"He won't hurt me. I trust him," John argued.

"And trust can be broken as easily as found," Joshua told him.

For the whole night, a frown marred John's face as he kept thinking about what Joshua had said. It was a very good quote to love, but to apply it to one's life was a very different matter. He trusted Sherlock. He had saved his life.
