Chapter 28: Brother

Sherlock

When Sherlock knew John was gone, he leant back at the wall behind him and sighed.

He didn't even know what he was doing anymore. He wanted John to come, but he was afraid to lose John to whatever he was dealing with.

He quietly phoned Mycroft and asked him to book a flight for Russia in two days.

"For two?" Mycroft asked.

"No. Just for me," Sherlock said.

"No John? Hmm... I won't ask what's going on in ParadiseIsland," Mycroft snickered.

"Shut up, Mycroft. I'm close to knowing why Moriarty is targeting me, and you're involved." Sherlock heard Mycroft go silent on the other end of the line.

Serves him right, Sherlock smirked.

"Blackmailing me now?" Mycroft's voice slightly quavered, which made Sherlock's smile brighten.

"Remember that missing file that you asked me about?" Sherlock said. "Well, I have it. I didn't read until I knew it would help me. And it did.

Charles Magnussen was a classmate of yours, who became an expert 'business man.' And as he is on neutral ground it is a known fact that he negotiates with both terrorists and government officials. He once negotiated with Moriarty and you as well."

"Of course he'd have negotiated with Moriarty one time!" Mycroft's voice was incredulous. "And I encountered him too, since-"

"Both of you are in a power play, aren't you? He wants to gain control of the criminal world without anyone knowing. He wants to be the king with the key! The master of blackmailing! And you wanted that too. But you want to control the government in secrecy. You don't want the limelight. It's a good plan, just in case you screw up, because all the blame would go to the Prime Minister.

It's one of the most confusing power plays in history, because why the hell would you fight Moriarty over Charles Magnussen? It's a known fact that he doesn't get employed. He is the employer."

There was only tense silence when Sherlock finished, answers from both parties noticeably shown.

"How... how do you know?" Mycroft's voice was a mere whisper, but Sherlock heard it nonetheless.

"Oh, Mycroft," Sherlock shook his head, a smile playing on his lips, rage quickly building up in him. "It was only a theory until you confirmed it. I was always smarter than you when it came to confessions and secrets."

"Sherlock, you cannot-"

"Why would I keep it a secret? You crossed the line so far, Mycroft!" Sherlock's voice was steady, but he was shaking in anger while his thoughts raced. "You used me as a pawn in your game! You used me, of all people!

I though you'd understand that people like me, like us, we don't like being played with because we're still human," Sherlock's voice broke. "And we still feel emotions even though we say we don't. And the only emotion I feel now is hurt."

Before Mycroft could try to explain anything to him, Sherlock ended the call and left the library as fast as he could.

A/N: That's one thing cleared. Well, aren't I just the most joyous person in the world? I feel like this is the most family wrenching chapter I'll ever write with Sherlock and Mycroft.
