Chapter 7: All They Wanted Part 1
John
"You're ambidextrous?" John peered at Sherlock's paper while looking at him scribbling away, using his right hand.
"I'm left handed. I don't really like using my right hand." Sherlock paused and flexed his hand. "It's uncomfortable and I'm not used to it."
"Who would have thought that Sherlock bloody Holmes thinks something is hard?" John said.
"I didn't say it was hard. I just said it was uncomfortable," Sherlock replied.
"Same thing," John said triumphantly.
Sherlock ignored John and continued writing, which John got bored of. So he stood up and left Sherlock to do whatever he was doing.
He walked to the library and picked out a book. He didn't look at the cover; he just picked it at random.
He flipped to the first page, where a dedication was.
To my wonderful readers,
I hope you know that anything is possible
Even if it seems too cold to touch.John smiled at the dedication and began to read the Prologue.
When you look at the stars that cover the dark blanket we call sky, you think of wishes.
When I look at the stars, my thoughts drift to a wish left unfulfilled, because he was like ice that was too cold and burnt my skin; because he was stubborn and he held his emotions to the ground.
When I see a shooting star, I wish I could go back in time and start all over again. Because... I still love him.
By the end of the book, it was already seven and he had come in at five. He was too absorbed in the disconsolate tale of Jane and Thomas. Mrs. Wales, the librarian, had to check on him a few times to see if he was okay. He was crying at the end because Thomas jumped. Jane stated it was the end of their friendship and it was the end of their story.
He stood up weakly and wiped the remaining tears from his cheeks before borrowing the book from the library. He never thought he would actually fall into a book so hard. He had cried harder than the time he had read The Fault in Our Stars. He didn't think it was that sad anyways, but... this was a story of two individuals who were normal in most ways. Except they had each other.
It was a story of two people, who smiled in hallways, talked in science and held hands accidentally. Their friendship seemed weak in the eyes of most, but in fact, it was strong like titanium. The only thing that stopped them from getting closer was a girl named Jill who kept Thomas away. And in the end, Thomas didn't want the problems anymore, so he jumped. The story itself was so intense, he had hardly taken a break.
"Hello, John." Sherlock walked back to his bed on the right side, not seeing that John's eyes were still watery from crying so much.
"Hi Sherlock," John croaked. His voice was sore and small. He didn't mind and kept sitting on Sherlock's bed.
"I need to te- are you okay, John?" Sherlock finally saw John's face and actually looked concerned for a moment.
"I'm fine. Just read a book," John answered meekly.
"What book?"
For the first time, he looked at the title and read it out aloud, "All They Wanted."
