John stepped closer to the man he once knew. He looked like he didn't change much; his curly hair was still there, his blue-green eyes sparkling, a smirk covering his abrasive face. It was Sherlock, standing right in front of him.

"I... I..." John was at a loss for words. It had been three years since he'd seen the man in front of him and they were hardly adults at that time; just two boys, about to see the world even more.

One of them thought the other died, leaving him alone to face the cruel truth of life.

"I'm sorry." Sherlock said.

"You... you bloody git! Do you know how much pain you made me go through?!" John yelled, shaking. "It's been three years! I thought you were dead! Buried where we're standing right now! You just had to die in front of me, didn't you? You always wanted to be so dramatic..."

John couldn't speak anymore as he was violently crying. He felt Sherlock's hold him in his arms. He burrowed his face and poured his emotions out, unable to move.

Finally, John looked up ad wiped his tears away. "I'm sorry, Sherlock."

"For what?" Sherlock asked.

John laughed slowly, but there was no humour in it. "I don't think I love you anymore."

Sherlock only smiled, understanding in his eyes. "That's okay. I just... I just needed to see you again." He whispered.

John hugged the estranged man but as soon as their paths converged, it split again.

The two men stepped away and shook hands, trailing opposite paths, their destinies away from each other.

But once upon a time, they were all that they needed.
