Chapter 5

The whole gang and the queen were gathering around the king laying on his lily pad, coughing.

" I'm dying." King Harold said weakly.

He inhaled and launched into a violently coughing fit. Shrek looked a bit guilty about his last admission about someone dying. Queen Lillian came to the king and he settled down.

" Harold." Lillian said looking down at her frog husband.

" Don't forget to pay the gardener, Lillian." Harold told his wife as he held her hand.

" Of course darling." Lillian said with a small smile. The king suppressed a few coughs before turning to his daughter.

" Fiona..." The king said looking up at his daughter.

" Yes Daddy?" Fiona asked him.

" I know I've made too many mistakes with you." King Harold said.

" It's okay." Fiona told him with a smile.

" But your love for Shrek has taught me so much." The king finished which caused Fiona to smile. Kobe smiled as well before her face went sad again.

The king turned to Shrek and said " My dear boy, I'm proud to call you my son."

" And I'm proud to call you my frog... king dad in law." Shrek said nervously which caused Kobe and Max to laugh a bit before they went sad again.

" Well I guess this is it." Max said to the king sadly. Kobe nodded her head in agreement with sadness. Ever since the king turned into a frog, he and Max were becoming very good friends.

" Yes it is Max. Now, there is a matter of business to attend tooo..." The king started wheezing and coughing.

Kobe closed her eyes tightly and covered her ears as she couldn't handle all that coughing and wheezing from the king. Who would want to see someone die like this? Eventually the king stopped coughing and layed there looking like he died.

" The frog king... is dead." Puss said sadly after solemnly removing his hat.

" Oh god." Kobe cried as she started laying her head onto Puss' shoulders. Fiona started crying as well. The king suddenly woke up coughingly.

" Put your hat back on fool." Donkey whispered snappingly to Puss which caused Kobe and Max to roll their eyes at him.

" Shrek, please come hither." King Harold told Shrek. Fiona gave Shrek a look before he walked over to the king.

" Yeah, Dad?" Shrek asked the king.

" This Kingdom needs a new king. You and Fiona are next in line for the throne." The king told the ogre. Kobe and Max looked up at their owner with wide eyes.

" Ooo. Next in line. You see dad, that's why people love you. Even on your deathbed you're still making jokes." Shrek said as he started laughing, not wanting to believe he was gonna be king. The king looked at Shrek stone faced.

" Um Shrek. He's not joking." Kobe whispered to him. Shrek looked at his pet cat before looking down at the king.

" Oh come on Dad. An ogre as king? I don't think that's such a good idea. There's got to be somebody else. Anybody?" Shrek complained to the king.

" Aside from you there is only one remaining heir." King Harold told his son in law. Shrek brightened.

" That's a good sign." Kobe thought to herself relieved before focusing on the king.

" Really?! Who is he?" Shrek asked the king excitedly.

" His name is... is... is..." The king started coughing and wheezing again.

" Not again!!" Kobe thought to herself covering her eyes in sadness and fear.

" What's his name? What's his name?" Shrek asked worried as he didn't want the king to die yet. The king tried to say the name but couldn't as he hyperventilated. Everyone looked down sadly again.

" Daddy!" Fiona exclaimed as she felt like crying again. A fly came out of the king's mouth. Puss was about to take his hat off but the king's tongue came out and caught the fly so Puss put his hat back on.

" His name is Arthur." King Harold told the ogre.

" Arthur?" Shrek asked.

" I know you'll do what's... right..." the king coughed and exhaled before succumbing. He was really dead this time.

" Harold?" The queen asked her husband in fear. No response from him.

" Oh god no!" Kobe sobbed as she put her head against Puss' shoulders as she was crying really hard.

" Dad? Dad? Dad?" Shrek asked worriedly as he gave up and there was no use. Donkey bowed his head and said to Puss " Do your thing man."

Puss took his hat off in sadness bowing his head in respect. Kobe was just sobbing and sobbing to the king's death. Fiona started sobbing as well but more than Kobe was. Fiona just lost her dad just like Kobe lost her mother.

" Good luck our friend." Max muttered to himself as he had tears coming down his eyes. Everybody was just filled with sadness at the moment.
