Chapter 28

Mabel walked up to her sister Doris and lightly punched her on the jaw.

Doris returned the sign of affection by punching Mabel in the jaw, but a bit too hard, sending her falling to the ground. Suddenly, Prince Charming licked himself free from the Evil Tree and charged them. He grabbed a sword from the discard pile and raised it up, his aim was at Artie.

The boy faced Prince Charming bravely, despite his fear. As the prince charged, Shrek found the strength to break his chains. Kobe and Max clapped their hands when they saw their owner break free. Just before Prince Charming could strike, a chain whipped, wrapping around the sword.

Shrek pulled Prince Charming around in a circle, away from Arthur. Furious, the prince charged Shrek and stabbed him with the sword which caused Kobe and Max to close their eyes tightly as their owner was hurt. Charming let go and Shrek stumbled back with the weapon impaled in him, and fell to the floor, groaning.

" A new era begins!" Prince Charming beamed and laughed as he looked at the audience. The audience cowered.

Kobe and Max opened their eyes to see that Shrek wasn't actually hurt and he looked up smiling and nodding at his pets, Fiona and Artie. The two pets giggled.

" Now, all of you, bow before your king!" Prince Charming ordered the crowd. Shrek casually rised up behind him.

" Ah-hem." Shrek cleared his throat before Prince Charming turned around and saw Shrek lifting his arm revealing that he was never really stabbed.

" You need to work on your aim." Shrek sarcastically told the prince with a smirk as Kobe and Max laughed their heads off. Prince Charming was stunned.

" This was supposed to be my happily ever after." Prince Charming said as he was paralyzed. Shrek dropped the sword and grabbed him by the shirt-front and lifted him off his feet.

" Well, I guess you'll have to keep looking..." Shrek stopped mid-sentenced as he was defiant.

He looked at Fiona, his pets and his friends and smiled.

" ...cause I'm not giving up mine." Shrek finished his sentence before setting the prince down and signaled Dragon. She casually tipped the tower over with her tail. A shadow fell over Prince Charming. He turned and saw the tower falling towards him.

" Mommy?" Prince Charming asked naively before the tower crashed down and he was trapped inside.
