Chapter 16

" My dad wasn't really the fatherly type either." Shrek told the three. Kobe and Max remembered Shrek telling them about his father and it was a weird one.

" Well, I doubt he was worse than mine." Artie said.

" Oh yeah? My father was an ogre. He tried to eat me." Shrek told the kid.

Even though the ogre told his pets about his dad, they still felt cringed about it. Artie looked at Shrek.

" Max and I are just gonna leave you two alone for a while." Kobe told them both. She got up and walked over to Puss with Max on top of her head.

" Did you really think the wizard guy was entertaining?" Puss asked Kobe.

" Well yes. He pretty much reminds of Vincent." Kobe told the male cat.

" Who's Vincent?" Puss asked her with a raised eyebrow. Max was confused as well.

" He's a Buddhist. A monk." Kobe told Puss as Max realized what she was talking about.

" Oh yes, I remember Vincent." Max said as he remembered the Buddhist he and Kobe met.

" He's a really handsome man. I'll introduce you to Vincent if we see him again." Kobe told the male cat. He understood what she said. Max yawned as he felt like going to sleep. Puss and Donkey felt tired too so they went to sleep and Kobe layed her backpack on the floor and put Max on it to sleep.

She was still awake thinking about how Fiona is doing at the moment since she's pretty much worried sick about what's going on while she and the males were relaxing on a small beach.

Shrek startled awake. He sat up and scratched his head, looking around. He realized it was morning. Kobe and Max woke up too and saw the sunlight.

" Morning Shrek." Kobe said to her owner.

" Morning you two." Shrek said to his pets. A peaceful bird landed on a tree branch behind them. Suddenly, the tree branch flicked off the bird. The three of them sensed movement behind them.

They turned around to find that everything was normal. Kobe and Max knew something wasn't right. Shrek turned around to wake up everyone while his pets looked at the tree. Their hearts stopped when they saw the tree advancing towards them and Shrek.

This wasn't just any tree. The log Artie was sleeping on suddenly sat up, knocking Artie to the ground.

" Ow!" Artie exclaimed as he got hit to the ground. The tree turned around to reveal an Evil Tree. Donkey woke up and he started screaming. Kobe and Max screamed as well after seeing the tree move.

More Evil Trees continued to advance A piano is heard. The trees parted and a pirate named Captain Hook was revealed to be playing the piano.

The music built to a dramatic finale. Captain Hook turned away from his keys and faced them.

" Look out! They've got a piano!" Donkey exclaimed in fear.

" The piano's not the only thing that's terrifying us!" Kobe yelled to the mule in anger and fear.

" Kill 'em all. Except the fat one." Captain Hook ordered the Evil Tree as he stared hard at Shrek and aimed his hook prosthetic.

" King Charming has something special in mind for you, ogre." The pirate said to Shrek. The ogre was perplexed when he said that.

" King Charming?" Shrek asked in confusion.

" You mean Prince Charming!" Kobe yelled out to the captain.

" QUIET GIRLY!!" Captain Hook shouted at Kobe which made her scared.

" Attack!" Captain Hook ordered the trees. Pirates charged forward, swinging from behind the trees which caused Kobe and Max to look around scared as they were surrounded.

" AAAARGH!" The pirates shouted.

One of them landed and got his peg leg stuck in the ground. The pirates closed in. Shrek grabbed one and threw him on the side. One pirate raised his sword and prepared to swing at Artie.

" Artie, Duck!" Shrek yelled out to the kid as he pushed Artie's head down and the sword narrowly missed him.

The pirate prepared to swing again and Shrek lifted Artie above his head. Still in the air, Artie used both legs to kick the pirate to the ground. Shrek and Artie shared a satisfied look.

A pirate charged towards Kobe and Donkey as they both started to scream. Puss drew this sword and began fighting off the pirate, protecting the female cat and donkey. Merlin can be seen happily playing the piano along with Captain Hook. The pirate rudely elbowed Merlin out the way.

As Kobe just stood there all scared, she heard Max's voice screaming from behind her. She checked her shoulders and backpack but he wasn't there.

" KOBE HELP ME!!!" Max shouted for help which made Kobe turn around to see that the pirate must've grabbed him while she wasn't looking.

" MAX!!" She shouted in fear before she angrily pounced on the pirate and started slapping, scratching, and punching him in the face violently making him drop the little gecko.

Meanwhile, several pirates with swords forced Shrek onto the plank. He was backed up to the edge of the plank and fell into the treasure chest below.

Several pirates tried to shut the lid on him. Puss, Donkey and Artie were trying to hold off the villains. Suddenly, two Evil Trees and scooped up, Donkey, Puss, and Artie up in a net.

Kobe was still fighting the pirate until...

" KOBE!!!" Max's voice shouted out again which caused the pirate to throw her down to the ground and she tried to search for her best friend. Kobe turned around and gasped.

" Max!" Kobe cried out in a ragged voice as she saw that three pirates were going to put the gecko in a jar. As he was put inside the jar, muffled cries can be heard from inside the jar. The gecko kept screaming and knocking aggressively on the jar, pleading with them to let him go.

" SHUT UP LIZARD!!" One pirate shouted as he shook the jar up and down causing Max to get dizzy.

" Shrek! Kobe!" Donkey's voice called out in fear which made her turn around and gasp when she saw her friends especially Puss caught in a net.

" Help!" Arthur called out as well. Kobe didn't know whether to help her possibly best friend Max or her friends that are like brother figures minus Puss like a boyfriend first.

Shrek saw the lit fuse and quickly formulated a plan. He grabbed two pirates and shoved into the treasure chest.
