Chapter 21

(Time skip)
Prince Charming was in the dressing room minding his own business mumbling himself, he adjusted the mirror revealing a reflection of Shrek standing in the doorway. Kobe, Artie, Puss and Donkey stood along side him.

Prince Charming quickly stood up and faced Shrek.

" Break a leg. Or, on second thought, let me break it for you." Shrek told the prince firmly before walking across the room as Prince Charming backed against his dressing table. He fumbled behind his back and pushed a button under the counter.

" Thank goodness you're here. I was beginning to think you might not make it back in... time." Prince Charming greeted nervously. Shrek picked him up by the front of his legs and scowled.

" Where's Fiona?" Shrek demanded the prince.

" Don't worry. She and the others are safe for now." Prince Charming replied with a smirk.

" Where's Max?" Kobe demanded Prince Charming as well, looking at him with an angry stare on her face.

" Who's Max?" Prince Charming sarcastically asked.

" The gecko that your army of Pirates and hideous looking trees caught in a jar, you monster!" Kobe hissed at him. The prince just smirked at her.

" Oh don't worry. That stupid lizard is with Fiona and the others as well." Prince Charming responded still smirking at the female cat. She growled and hissed at the jerk. Shrek strengthen his grip until a group of guards bursted into the room and quickly surrounded Shrek, Kobe, Artie, Puss and Donkey.

Prince Charming smiled while Shrek looked around and realized he was defeated. He dropped Charming onto the floor with a thud. The prince brushed himself off as the guards surrounded Shrek. Kobe got scared for her owner. Prince Charming walked over to Artie. A smile grew across his face.

" Let me guess... Arthur?" Prince Charming sarcastically asked the boy.

" It's Artie actually..." Artie introduced, looking indignant and raised himself up.

" This boy is supposed to be the new kingdom of Far Far Away?" Prince Charming asked as he started laughing while drawing his sword and holding it up to Artie's neck.

" How pathetic! Now stand still so I won't make a mess." Prince Charming threatened the teenage boy.

" Charming, stop! I'm here now, you got what you wanted. This isn't about him." Shrek stepped in. Kobe looked up at her owner with wide eyes knowing he was gonna tell Arthur the truth.

Artie looked at the ogre confused when Shrek said that.

" Then who's it about? I'm supposed to be king, right?" Artie asked the ogre.

Shrek hesitated at first and than gathered himself.

" You weren't really next in line for the throne, okay? I was." Shrek admitted.

" But you said the King asked for me personally." Artie reminded Shrek as he was disbelieved.

" Not exactly." Shrek told the boy.

" What's that supposed to mean?" Artie asked, glaring at Shrek.

" Look, I said whatever I had to say, alright! I wasn't right for the job, I just needed some fool to replace me, and you fit the bill, So just go!" Shrek told him as he became defensive.

" You were playing me the whole time." Artie said as he was stunned. Shrek fought back tears as he punished Arthur.

" You catch on real fast kid... Maybe you're not as big of a loser I thought." Shrek said. Kobe felt extremely bad for her owner and Artie at the same time.

Puss (in Donkey's body) was about to interject when Donkey (in Puss' body) covered his mouth and signaled him to be quiet.

" You know, for a minute there, I actually thought you..." Artie tried to say but Prince Charming said " What? That he cared about you? He's an ogre. What did you expect?" Prince Charming scoffed at the boy. The prince signaled the guards to release Arthur. The teenager looked at Shrek one last time which made Kobe even more sorry for him.

Shrek lowered his head in shame for what just happened.

" You really do have a way with children, Shrek." Prince Charming teased which made Kobe see red at the prince. Prince Charming smiled and the guards led Shrek off.
