It's been five long years now, the special bundle of bright blonde hair that was dropped off at the Konohagakure orphanage is now a very hyperactive child. He's caused so many issues with the other children, both younger and older than him. He's a big prankster and loves only two things. His granny, Miss Tsunade who had become attached to him, and ramen a dish he was served when Shizune and Miss Tsunade were far too tired to deal with making dinner. Naruto had just started getting homeschooled, but sadly he was the only one in his grade. The twins he had grown up with had gotten adopted a few months ago. Most of the older kids had gotten chosen too. Some were even returned for being 'too noisy and too chaotic' or 'always hungry' or 'too lazy', these kids were Naruto's best friends. There was a chubby kid who was never seen without a bag of chips, a tired looking kid with hair that reminded Naruto of a pineapple's top, and a loud kid who thought he was part dog. They had been with Naruto in his classes a few times but they were adopted once more and Naruto never saw them again.
Naruto and the younger kids were the only ones left, but even then, those kids were getting adopted much quicker than Naruto. He didn't seem to care because that meant he could be with Granny all he wanted. At night though Naruto could be heard talking to himself. He called himself dumb, and annoying. He told himself that no one wanted him because he wasn't perfect like everyone else. Naruto cried himself to sleep unknowingly that Tsunade could hear him as she walked down the halls checking up on the remaining kids. She had tried to find him the perfect parents, ones that loved to play and helped him with homework. When she did and they met him and asked him questions Naruto didn't seem to fit their expectations.
One day before Naruto had given up there was a couple who had wanted to adopt him. Sadly, his dark thoughts came out and they refused a child with' depressing' issues. Tsunade had filed a complaint against them claiming they were the depressing issue. After that Naruto decided it best to wear a mask and seem like the happy child everyone wanted. Naruto would sing and dance whenever he could. Tsunade and Shizune were his only audience as the younger kids claimed that they didn't like his singing.
Naruto loved singing so much that he was heard throughout the house no matter the time. He was reprimanded a few times to be quiet and sleep. Naruto couldn't help himself though, he was just that happy. Even the new couple that came to see him couldn't get him to speak normally, he'd always sing his reply. The couple claimed it was annoying and asked to see one of the younger kids.
Naruto didn't care anymore, if no one wanted a singing prodigy, as he called himself, then he didn't want them. Tsunade laughed every time the possible parents to this hyper child came and left just as quickly. If no one adopted him she would and give him the best life she could.
Months after Naruto began his singing Tsunade had fallen ill and Shizune was given the title of the home. She cared for Naruto in ways any mother would just as Tsunade had. Weeks went by and Tsunade didn't get any better. Shizune continued to keep Naruto away afraid he'd handle the news badly. She taught him everything he needed to know in case he was sent to public school once he was adopted. She taught him how to defend himself if need be. Taught him to make himself ramen and where they stored the foam cups of soup. Soon enough Naruto's birthday came and Tsunade demanded she see her son.
On October 10, 1999 Naruto was sent into Tsunade's room with Shizune right behind. He wasn't sure why Granny was in bed all the time but he wished that she gets better. Tsunade laughed at his wasted birthday wish. Shizune left Naruto in there after Tsunade asked to be alone.
"Naruto. I want to tell you something. A secret." Tsunade smiled as the blonde kid sat on her bed.
"Is this about the secret room in the kitchen with all the different ramens? Cause I already know, I found it last year." Naruto beamed proud of himself.
"No, you brat. This is something very important." The old woman said with a serious tone gaining Naruto's attention.
Feeling he was in trouble Naruto sat patiently waiting for the blame of something. Tsunade took his small soft hand and rubbed her aged fingers over it.
"I want you to know that I think of you as my own. You, Naruto, are my special, goofy, son. I may not be your mom by blood, but I am her by heart. I know you'll think all this is strange and confusing, but you'll understand when you're older." Tsuande said before coughing.
Naruto watched as she regained her composure and continued.
"I want to give you your birthday gift. I want you to keep it safe where you are or go, it will remind you who loves you the most. Close your eyes." Tsunade smiled and watched as the child did as she asked.
Carefully moving Tsunade took off her necklace and placed it around Naruto's small one, "Alright. This necklace was my grandfather's, then my ...lover's and then my brother's. I want you to have it as you are my son. Promise me you'll keep singing and living life to the fullest. One day you're going to be adopted by the perfect parents and fall in love and grow old like me. Then you can give it back to me." Tsunade smiled with sadness in her eyes.
"Ok, I promise. But you gotta get better, so you can see the people who adopt me and the girl I bring home and the awards I'll get for being the best singer! "Naruto exclaimed happily.
Tsunade nodded as she coughed, "Bring Shizune back and let's eat some cake." She laughed.
The three of them ate cake in secret, gifts were given and Naruto left to show off his new toys. Shizune wished Tsunade sweet dreams as Tsunade claimed she was tired and wanted a nap.
Later that night at exactly 11:59:05 Tsunade drifted to a far-off land.
