A/n: I decided to make them 15 so this is three years after Naruto got adopted, so therefore he is 15 and so is Sasuke.

It's been three years since Naruto has been with his new family. School had started and ended over the years, Naruto still got excited and anxious every time he had to go back. His new friends had grown on him, and his inner prankster had shown himself. He learned that his friends were the same children he used to play with at the orphanage, so they were more like brothers now. He's gotten in trouble with Mr. Sarutobi a few times, but never got suspended. Sasuke had spoken to him a few times in class over the years that they shared one. He's also found out the name of the pink haired girl that had stolen his heart. Sakura Haruno, a young girl that was both average in brain as she was in body. Naruto though didn't care that she had already had her eyes on someone else.

When Naruto was home Iruka and him were in separate rooms. Iruka and Kakashi were now engaged and planning their wedding for the year. Kakashi had moved them into his house right next to Sasuke's after purposing to Iruka. Naruto got to have the whole upstairs to himself, including the random spare room that was there, Naruto never used it. Iruka and Naruto were still very close when Kakashi wasn't around, Naruto liked to give them privacy. Naruto had also painted his room with the same spiral he had back at the old apartment. The room wasn't orange, but a light blue.

As of right now though, Naruto and the rest of the school were being told that there would be a talent show with very respectable people in the audience. Naruto had been the first to sign up declaring he was the best at singing in his entire group who gave him the eye. Of course, Mr. I'm-too-good-to-be-here signed up too as a singer. Naruto had tons of competition but he knew he could surpass them all and gain Sakura's heart.

The whole school was excited to hold the show or be a part of it. Naruto had been heading home singing to the music of his phone that came through his headphones. His head bopped up and down slightly and there was a bounce in his step. He was in his own little world remembering his granny and what songs he used to sing to her. There was a sad smile on his lips as the songs changed to Shizune's favorite song. Naruto sang the slow song of love as he walked up the path to the gated community of houses. Soon his body had gotten into the song and he danced his way home singing at the top of his lungs now.

Then he was pushed and his whole world came down on him, well it was really his phone. Naruto looked up at the person who had pushed him out the way as he picked himself off the sidewalk. It was Sasuke with a guy with long hair and very clear white eyes. The two smirked at the blonde watching him get up.

"Maybe you should drop out of the show, that voice of yours hurt my ears." The blind looking guy laughed.

"Neji, don't lie to him. You know his voice almost made our ears bleed. Come on let's go, we don't want to catch idiocy." Sasuke said rolling his eyes and walking away.

Neji, the long-haired brunette, followed after his pale friend as they both looked back before laughing. Naruto stood there biting his tongue and taking deep breaths. He had a short fuse when it came to Sasuke. Naruto checked his phone for any cracks before walking on again, this time keeping his voice low as he sang.

When Naruto walked into the house Iruka had welcomed him from the kitchen. The house smelled of chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon. Naruto dropped his bag and took his shoes off by the door and followed the smell. He turned his music off and looked over Iruka's shoulder to find freshly baked cookies.

"Smells good. What are they for?" Naruto asked sneaking one into his mouth.

Iruka laughed at his child's behavior and swatted at the hand reaching for a second, "They're for the kids at the orphanage." Iruka answered.

Naruto stood still, he swallowed hard causing himself to choke on the cookie. Iruka patted his back with wide eyes filled with worry. The cookie made its way down Naruto's throat just as Kakashi slammed the door shut. The duo looked into the hall to find Kakashi throwing the house keys into the welcome bowl and stalking down the hall to his room. Iruka looked at Naruto who looked back at him, they both shrugged and went back to the cookies.

"Why the orphanage?" Naruto asked now looking through the cabinets for a glass.

"I just thought I'd thank them for giving me the best kid. Plus, I need to invite Shizune to the wedding." Iruka laughed and plated the cooled cookies.

Naruto hummed and took the glass to the fridge where he got water. Iruka turned around with the finished plate of cookies and showed it to Naruto who again tried to sneak a cookie. Iruka laughed at his son's attempts and eyed the oven. Naruto looked inside and his mouth watered. Inside was a chicken roasting with carrots and potatoes, his favorite. Naruto drank his water as Iruka set the plate full of cookies on the counter and went about to finish dinner. Naruto excused himself to do homework.

In his room with his backpack Naruto laid in bed staring at the ceiling. His mind replayed what Neji and Sasuke had said. Maybe he wasn't as good as he thought. Maybe granny had told him he was good because she liked him and didn't want to hurt his feelings. Maybe Iruka bought him a toy microphone that echoed his voice as a kid to distract him from how bad he sounded. Naruto rolled over and looked out the window beside his bed. His chest hurt and his mind wasn't helping at all. Maybe he should drop out.

"Naruto?" Iruka asked knocking and poking his head in.

Naruto sat up wiping his eyes as if he had fallen asleep in order to cover up the tears that had escaped. Iruka sighed and sat down next to him on the queen-sized bed. Iruka patted Naruto's knee and smiled.

"What's the matter?" Iruka asked now rubbing the knee.

"Nothing." Naruto lied and laid back down.

"Naruto Uzumaki Umino, I've known you for three years. What's going on for real." Iruka said sternly.

Sighing Naruto told him what happened on the way home.

"Look, if they think you suck then that's on them. They're entitled to their own opinion, but that doesn't mean you have to take it to heart. I mean look at me. Everyone said I'd be a horrible father, especially since I'm gay.  Heh, am I a horrible father? No, I've proven that. Did I think I would be? Yes, but I never held the thoughts for more than a few minutes. Sure, its hurtful that people would think so badly about you. But that doesn't mean you should give up and stop doing what you love. If it happens again tell Sasuke that his mother was a horrible singer and he knows it. As for Neji tell him that his father was gay before he died." Iruka laughed as he patted Naruto's leg once more. (This goes for all you readers too. Don't let someone's negative thoughts make you feel down. you're all amazing people)

"Wait, you knew their parents?!" Naruto asked totally skipping over the heartfelt speech.

Iruka laughed harder and nodded, "Kakashi and I knew them since we all went to school together."

Naruto was flabbergasted and laughed with Iruka.
