Yong-Hoo
The ride back was silent and this time not even Father Choi tried to do anything about it. Although the exorcism had been successful the mood was as gloomy as the rainy afternoon. Kwang-Soo had not taken the exorcism very well and was left completely frightened. Father Choi had invited him and his mother to come to his church this upcoming weekend, so he could check up on them, but it would probably be a long way to recovery from the shock, for both of them.
The other reason for the trio's quiet brooding was the frustration about still being in the dark about what kind of conspiracy was happening and what part the dark bishop played in all that. After they had left the Min's house, Soo-Jin had shared what the demon had said to her before himself and Father Choi had arrived, and altough both men had advised her to ignore it, he still had a bad feeling about it. They would have to be even more careful. Could Soo-Jin have something that was of interest to the dark bishop? And could it really be him, risen from the dead? The more Yong-Hoo ried to wrap his head around it, the less sense it made to him. And given Father Choi's unusual behavior, it was the same for him.
Yong-Hoo mustered Soo-Jin through the rearview mirror. She was staring out the window, her bandaged hands folded in her lap. He could not help but feel guilty and responsible tat she got hurt. If their plan had been better, if they had only been faster, this would not have happened. He tried telling himself that it was not a bad injury and it would heal quickly, but a different voice in his head kept countering, that it had just been lucky they had arrived in time and that it could have ended much, much worse. As if she had sensed his gaze on her, she turned her head, locking eyes. Yong-Hoo quickly looked away and did not look back again for the rest of the ride.
He decided to drop off Father Choi first, who waved them goodbye with a warm and comforting smile after making Soo-Jin promise she would call him if something seemed unusual to her of if she didn't feel good. After the priest had left, Soo-Jin got into the front seat in his stead and they continued their way to her apartment. Yong-Hoo caught his fingers tapping at the steering wheel, which were trying to fill the empty air between them. He didn't like smalltalk, so why did he feel like he had to say something? Why wasn't she saying anything?
"Are you worried?" His tongue spoke out his thoughts without reservation. "Don't believe what the demon said..."
From the corner of his eye he saw her turn towards him, but her voice was distant, almost a whisper. "I was rather worried you might have believed it."
He looked at her in suprise and shook his head no. "You can't let anything a demon says get to you."
"Then you're not mad at me?"
"No, why should I." He meant it but she did not seem convinced.
"You look angry though."
"I think that's just my face..."
"Well, whatever it is, it doesn't suit you. It's intimidating and kind of scary."
He tried not to sound offended by that. "So, my face is scary?"
"And intimidating.", she nodded, "You look like you are about to rip someone's head off."
He forced an overexaggerated smile, so big that he could barely see anymore. "Is this better?"
"Oh sweet baby Jesus!", Soo-Jin exclaimed and laughed out loud. "Now you look like you are about to rip someone's head off with your teeth."
Her laugh was contagious and his grimace effortlessly turned into a smile.
"There you go", she giggled, "This suits you much better."
He coughed awkwardly and tried to put up a neutral, but non-threatening face. Okay, maybe his jaw muscles really did feel a bit tense...
