Yong-Hoo

Yong-Hoo hung up the call with Father Ahn and had to hold back not to throw his phone across the room. No way he was going to do this! He understood that the Vatican wanted answers to what had happened and the logical conclusion was to examine the vessel. No one wanted answers more than he did- it was a personal matter to find out if his self-proclaimed nemesis was defeated for good- but to drag Soo-Jin all the way to Rome for it? She had been through enough and he would rather live in paranoia than involve her in this, again, especially now that she had the chance to start a whole new life.

There were no words to describe the relief he felt that she had survived that night and would even go as far as calling it a miracle that her disease had been cured. If it had also been God, who had taken all those horrible memories from her or if it was a psychological reaction to the traumatic events she had had to go through, didn't matter. Even if she actually remembered and chose to ignore him and Father Choi, he would not blame her for it.

Still, it hurt. It hurt more than he would have thought possible, but he did not allow himself to miss her. That would be an egoistic privilege that would lead him to do stupid things, like driving by her place or imagine what it would be like running into her somewhere on the streets. Even if his stupid little heart wanted to see her, he dreaded it, being the cause of her misery. He wanted her to be happy, even if it meant for him to be unhappy.

It would pass eventually, right? The trip to Rome would bring a change of scenery and keep him busy. He squared his shoulders. Yes, he was going to focus on his job. Now, that he had chosen accept the church's job offer as an exorcist, there was going to be a lot of work. He was finally able to see that there was so much good that he could do, with or without the stigmata. Maybe someday he would have done enough good to make up for the pain he had caused her. And maybe, just maybe, someday he would forget her face.
