Yong-Hoo
They were about 20 minutes away from their destination, when Father Choi got a call from Mrs. Min. After it had ended the priest summarized the news: her son had suddenly started to act agressively -he had nearly trashed the whole apartment- which had led to the neighbors calling the cops. Upon their arrival the boy had attacked the two police officers, causing them severe injuries. Only with the help of more police officers they were able to restrain him. They had arrested him and brought him to the local police station, where he had to stay until the next day.
Yong-Hoo sighed in frustration. Because of the traffic jam the drive had taken much longer then expected and he didn't feel like driving back and forth. "So what do we do? Go to the police station?"
"I think it could cause too much attention. We should have his mother take him home tomorrow and then deal with him there."
"I'm not driving back tonight. I think we should find a place to sleep." Yong-Hoo looked at Soo-Jin through the rearview mirror. "If that's alright with you."
She looked a little pale but confidently withstood his glare, nodding yes. "Sure."
Father Choi looked up the adress of the nearest guest house, which also was the village's only guest house, and Yong-Hoo changed directions. When they arrived at the traditional, old building, it was already dark outside.
Unfortunately their streak of bad luck didn't seem to be over yet. The guest house's host, an elderly lady with a gentle voice, informed them that there was only one free room available. Since they didn't have any other choice, they still took the room, hoping the lady's reaffirmation that the three of them would be able to fit in there, was true. They laid out the bedding next to each other, utilizing all the space they had. It should be fine for one night, but Yong-Hoo already felt uncomfortable at this involuntary intimacy. Quickly he opened the door that led to the terrace, escaping the cramped room. Together they sat down on the terrace, enjoying the mild, clean breeze and ate the food that Soo-Jin had packed.
Shortly after, Soo-Jin excused herself, saying she had a headache and wanted to lay down. She shut the door behind her after the two men had wished her a good night.
Yong-Hoo couldn't help but be concerned about her state. What had happened prior surely was related to her disease and could not mean anything good. If it had been up to him, he would have turned around and forced her to go home and rest, but he knew she would have never let that happen. He had to think of a way to convince Father Choi to not let her come along in the upcoming mission, without spoiling anything about Soo-Jin's condition. If there only was anything he could do. Instantly he looked down at his hands, staring at the spot where those wicked stigmata had been before, as if his determination alone could make them reappear. Father Ahn had mentioned that stigmata also had healing powers. If Yong-Hoo still had them, would he have been able to help her? Maybe. He would never know.
"How did the meeting with your sponsors go?" Father Choi's words interrupted his thoughts, bringing him back to reality.
Yong-Hoo leaned back, looking at his friend. "They offered me a huge deal. Apparently people liked the last fight and want to see more." He grimaced. "But I don't know if I should take it. It just doesn't feel right."
The priest nodded understandingly. "It's not an easy decision."
Yong-Hoo could feel his hesitation and looked at him questioningly. The priest had lowered his gaze and his fingers lovingly touched the ring, Father Ahn had gifted him- the same, he had worn before too. Yong-Hoo gave his friend the time he needed and patiently waited until he was ready to talk.
