The drive home seemed to take longer than it did on the way there. That's usually the case with trips away. The excitement on the way there makes the time go quicker. The desire to get home makes time go slower.
The group were antsy to get back and see their little ones. Although they'd had the most amazing time away and made some incredible memories, they missed Haley and Angus dearly.
Eventually, they pulled up to Harry and Shay's house. Shay offered Niall and Heather a cup of coffee before they had to shoot off to which they accepted.
Little did Shay know they wouldn't be leaving for a good while.
They barrelled through the front door, Harry throwing down the bags and suitcases. Niall and Heather left there's in Harry's boot for now. They'd transfer them to their car before leaving.
The house seemed pretty quiet. They assumed the kiddos were down for their naps. All looking at each other they shrugged before entering the living room.
Anne and Gemma quickly shot up from the couch. They were acting shifty which did not go unnoticed by Shay.
"Welcome back!" Both Anne and Gemma chimed.
"Hey you two!" Shay smiled. She was excited to be back but to also tell them both about the engagement. She wasn't quite sure when the appropriate time was to do so though. Blurting it out right away didn't seem right.
"How was it? Was the cabin nice?" Anne made idle chitchat. Darting her eyes from Shay to Harry and then back to Shay.
This didn't go unnoticed. Shay could sense the tension in the room. Everyone was acting weird and she didn't like it.
"Okay what's going on?" Shay asked.
"Nothing were just so excited your back!" Gemma chimed. She'd coyly gestured to Harry a thumbs up. Luckily Shay missed that. She hadn't missed the fact that Heather and Niall were no longer behind them though.
"Shay let's go into the kitchen to grab a drink yeah?" Harry suggested. It earned him a confused look but she followed.
Harry grasped the handle and pushed open the door.
They were met by a huge chorus. All of Shay's family and friends, Gemma's partner Michal, Jeff, Glenne and even the girls Shay went to uni with. She hadn't seen them in a long while so was shocked to see them there. One of the girls, Lu, had Haley in her arms. Niall and Heather were also there, Niall held Angus as Heather stood next to him.
Around the space were balloons and streamers and a big banner that read 'Congratulations."

The room grew silent as Shay just stood in shock. Not expecting to see everyone all in one place but also still trying to catch up with the events of the past few days.
Suddenly she burst into tears. The emotion being too much.
Everyone laughed as Harry pulled her close and hugged her tightly.
