"This was your plan all along wasn't it?" Shay asked her husband.
Harry held Haley up so she could look at one of the cats who was named Bonnie. He turned his head slightly to see Shay looking at the cat as well.
"Maybe. I just thought it would be nice for Haley to have a pet." He replied.
"Mhm.. so no ulterior motive? It's not anything to do with the fact that you want one then?" Shay smirked.
Harry faked a look of shock and gasped.
"How dare you accuse me. I was thinking of my little girls happiness I'll have you know."
"Yeah yeah."
They both smiled at each other before turning their attention to Haley.
"So Haley Paley, what do you think? Wanna hold her?" Harry whispered into her ear.
The little girl nodded frantically, causing her parents to laugh softly.
They called over the woman that worked at the shelter to open the cage. She also told them a little bit about where the cat had come from and their background. It was nothing too serious, another case of buying for Christmas and abandoning them when they couldn't handle it anymore. She needed a good home and a lot of love.
"Well we've definitely got plenty of that." Harry smiled at the woman, who's name was Megan.
Haley sat on Harry's lap, with the cat in hers. Shay sat next to them, stroking Bonnie's fur.
Harry gave Shay a subtle nod before turning back to Megan.
"We'll take her."
Megan smiled and explained that she needed to take Bonnie to get her ready and to get the papers.
Shay, Harry and Haley were left sitting on the ground.
"We see the doggies too?" Haley asked her parents.
Shay and Harry looked at each other.
"I don't see why we can't have a little look." Shay smiled sweetly at her daughter.
Haley clapped her hands together before clambering out of Harry's lap. Her little hands grabbed Harry's, pulling him towards the dog kennels.
"Woah, let me get up first bub!" Harry coughed out.
Shay chuckled and followed suit.
She had to admit that although she loved both cats and dogs, she'd always had dogs growing up. So the thought of being in a room full of them made her happy.
The three of them were greeted by an array of breeds and sizes. Each one wagging their tails excitedly.
There was one dog in particular that caught Shay's attention though. His tail was wagging but he sat in the corner of his kennel, rather than being right up against the bars like the others.
She made a beeline for him. Bending so that she was eye level.
Haley rushed over and held onto Shay's thigh.
"Doggy shy?" Haley stared at her mum.
"Yeah I think he might be munchkin."
Harry was petting another dog on the other side of the room but soon made his way over to see what was happening. He glanced over at the info card attached to the bars.
"Henry. Abandoned by previous owners. Shy nature but incredibly loving and sweet." He mumbled out as he read.
"That's so sad. He's beautiful. I hate that people do this to such caring animals. We don't deserve them." Shay felt her eyes start to water at the thought of someone being so cruel.
