Although the Frost family were nobles, they did not cut the line ahead of all the civilians and merchants who were entering. The line moved quickly anyways, as people entered or were turned away. When it was their turn, Eric pulled out a family emblem, which was a snowflake overlapping a sun on a silver badge.
"Oh Viscount Frost! We were getting worried since you didn't arrive yesterday like predicted." The guard with a handle bar mustache and slightly wavy dark brown hair greeted enthusiastically.
"Yes, as you assumed we ran into a mishap. Some hooligans used us as bait to evade an angry bear they had provoked. Our carriage was destroyed and several guards were killed... They are a few hours down the road, if you could assist us in collecting their bodies for proper burials, I'd very much appreciate it." Eric gave a brief explanation.
"Oh my that's terrible! I'll get a group together for that quickly, could I also trouble you to come in and write a report for my Lord as well? We'll also prepare a carriage to take your family to the villa that was prepared for you."
"Thank you, please lead the way." Eric agreed and followed him into a decent sized earthen building inside the gate.
The rest of the group was invited to a covered sitting area just outside. Lucia looked around and noticed that almost all the buildings were mainly made of earth, with wood and stones being supports or decoration purely. No wonder there were still so many trees around! Lucia nodded to herself, she heard long ago that earthen houses provided good natural insulation against heat and chill. Looking at so many people walking around with brown hair or eyes, it would seem that a lot of people developed the earth attribute. There was still a decent mix of red (life), orange (fire), and blue (water) hair and eye colors mixed in.
Lucia was surprised to notice the lack of black (dark) and yellow (light). 'Dark and Light were quite popular in the game. I guess there is a chance a lot of these people have neutral mana like me and were just born with brown or other hair colors. It's also possible they haven't awakened...' In the end Lucia just shrugged as she gave up thinking about it.
Lucia just sat on the slightly tall bench and swung her feet. It had been a long time since she could do that. She was tall for a woman in the past, reaching almost six feet tall. Now she was down to about a little over four feet tall.
{Ah, it's so weird being short! Why couldn't I be a teenager like you Aegis?} Lucia complained out of boredom as she leaned back on the bench.
{Probably because our ages are different.} Aegis thought properly before replying.
{How old are you?} Lucia asked.
{Hmmm, counting the years I was human and undead... About sixty I think? I lost track after a while.} Aegis struggled to remember the time that passed when he was undead.
Lucia looked at Aegis with questions unsaid, but quickly leaned forward to look at the ground instead of asking. Aegis looked over in time to see her evasive action while he was leaning on the wall nearby.
{Ask what you want to ask. If you keep holding back, I'll start to think you don't care.} Aegis smiled wryly. 'Really, this girl is so curious, but still holds back for the sake of my feelings.'
{It's not that! I care, that's why I don't want you to remember unhappy things because of my questions...} Lucia slightly panicked at the thought of being misunderstood.
{I know you well enough to understand that now. Thank you. However, even if you don't ask about it, that doesn't mean I don't think about it.} Aegis eyes seemed distant for a moment, then he looked to the ground.
Just as Lucia was about to ask him, Amanda came over, "Come with me, we'll go get you identities. I told the guards to have the carriage wait for us if it comes before we get out."
