The Omen (37)

The wind started to pick up, rustling the leaves, as the short staring contest came to an end. The Large racoon grabbed a stone from the ground and threw it at Aegis and started running. Aegis lazily blocked the stone with his shield and side stepped in front of the Racoon who was trying to run around his right side. The racoon who was expecting the stone to be a distraction was surprised and backed up while hissing. Lucia raised an eyebrow in curiosity at the racoon's strange fighting style. While Aegis and Lucia were looking at the first racoon, Vicki noticed something moving behind them in the trees. Vicki flew up and breathed fire into the shadows of the tree. A singed racoon fell out of the tree in shock as it rolled around to put out the fire on its fur. Vicki wrapped herself in flames and dive bombed the racoon.

The racoon saw a ball of flame flying at it, so it raised up a wall of earth in front of it. Vicki who was prepared turned sideways instead of going directly over and looped around behind the racoon whose sight was now blocked. Vick took a deep breath and roasted the racoon's back while it was waiting for her to come over the dirt wall. It yowled in pain and scurried around in a panic till it bonked into a tree. Vicki chuckled amusedly as she took to the air and hid in the tree canopy. 

Lucia noticed the action going on behind her as soon as Vicki flew off her shoulder and when the racoon bonked into the tree, she shot [Magic Missile] at it. The attack hit causing the racoon to yowl in pain and it tried to scurry away behind the tree. Vicki came down from the tree tops and dive bombed it while bathed in flame again. Her claws dug into its neck and her flame spread out across its body and into it through the wound. It screeched in pain and tossed around trying to throw Vicki off its back. Vicki didn't want to get smacked into the ground so she released her grip and rose into the air. Lucia cast another [Magic Missile] at it once Vicki got some distance from it. The racoon then wrapped itself in earth and burrowed under ground.

"Well that sucks... We don't have a way to catch it now that it's underground." Lucia lamented. "Keep an eye out, it might try to ambush us from underground." 

Vicki made a sound of agreement and landed on a tree branch to stay vigilant.

The racoon that had been facing off with Aegis in the meantime, had been throwing anything it could get its claws on. Lucia checked on the situation and saw some vines creeping along the ground towards them.

{That racoon has plant magic. It's trying to ensnare us with vines.} Lucia told Aegis.

"I know, it's not the only one that can be sneaky." Aegis said with a smirk as the racoon shrieked suddenly before ice erupted beneath it into several ice spikes. The racoon's body was pierced through in several places as it whined in pain. The vines it was manipulating fell against the ground limp. Aegis walked up quickly and slit the racoon's throat to end its misery. The wind was starting to get stronger. 

{Uh, there is a tier 7 bird flying over the mountain right now. We might want to make ourselves scarce...} Rikit alerted through telepathy. 

{Thanks for the heads up.} Lucia thanked him then turned to Aegis, {Can you behead that racoon and cut off the legs so I can fit it into my space?} 

Aegis quickly followed her request and Lucia stuffed the racoon's body into her space. They swiftly started to move away from the tier 7 bird that was flying towards the area they came from. Vicki had to land on Lucia's shoulder to anchor herself. The wind was strong like the prelude to a storm even among the trees, leaves and debris flew around all over.

A loud voice boomed across the mountains, "Come out you Winged Lizard!" 

The voice was so loud it caused everyone who was under tier 2 to become disoriented. Then the strongest gust of wind yet blasted out sending lots of tier 3 and under creatures flying around. As Lucia, Aegis, and Vicki had been badly disoriented by the loud voice and were unable to prepare themselves for the strong wind, it sent them flying. Lucia grabbed out blindly to hold onto Aegis and Vicki despite her confused state. She pulled Vicki to her chest and managed to grab Aegis's gauntlet. They got flung around bouncing into trees until they reached the edge of the forest and consequently, the edge of the cliff.
