As Aegis was about to walk past the fern, he stomped heavily and the area got covered with ice. Aegis then smashed down with the bottom of the ice shield, shattering the frozen fern, and cutting into the back of the snake's neck. The snake broke free of the ice and conjured a large amount of water to push Aegis away. Aegis locked himself in place by freezing his feet to the ground and slammed the shield down again with both hands as he decapitated the snake. The body twitched for a bit before going limp.
{That went well, we'll keep like this, but don't overly rely on eyes of the soul.} Lucia advised.
{Yes.} Aegis and Vicki responded.
Ray tried observing through the watery surface, but could only see the ceiling and Lucia's back. He quickly got bored and started thinking about things. 'That eyeball thing, they didn't ask how it communicates with its allies, or if they have the ability to control the mission portals, or what methods they have to travel long distances... Isn't it dangerous to not know this information?' Ray started to feel a sense of foreboding. He shouted to get Rikit's attention, "Hey let me out! I have something to say!"
Alas, the shadow was a sound proof pocket dimension. When Rikit isn't paying attention to it, no sound can leak out of it, and currently Rikit was looking for possible ambushes. Ray felt frustrated and tried shooting a [Water Ball] spell up. It reached just short of the ceiling, so he tried a [Water Arrow] spell this time, which poked just barely out before falling down.
"Dang it." Ray sank into contemplation and started using any method he could think of to try and get their attention.
He tried jumping and casting the spell, raising himself up with water and then casting. and even when the water arrow poked half way out. The mana from his spell just caused the group to pause because they sensed a weak mana reaction, before they continued on their way. Ray then focused his remaining mana under him to launch him up with a concentrated water spout. His hand managed to reach out of the shadow and touch Lucia's ankle before he started to fall. Ray grit his teeth thinking that this wouldn't be able to get their attention yet again.
Then a hand grabbed his wrist and pulled him out of the shadow. Ray saw that Lucia was looking at him curiously as she helped him to stand up. "What's wrong?"
Ray quickly spoke out his inquiry, "So, I was wondering if you guys know how the eyeball creatures communicate with each other, if they can control those mission portal things, or how they travel long distance?" He wiped away the sweat that was pouring down his face from his exhaustive efforts.
Lucia and Aegis eyes widened as they really hadn't considered this. Lucia requested "Rikit, send us into the shadow please."
Rikit acquiesced and sent everyone into the shadow while he stayed on guard in the forest. Once in the shadow, Lucia took out the orb that sealed Vivi and placed it on the ground. Lucia pointed two fingers at the orb and said, "[Vivi Seal Release]."
The orb seemed to melt into smoke that dispersed quickly as Vivi woke up in a daze. Before Vivi could wake up fully, ice crept up from the ground to hold it firmly.
"Ugh, now what do you want?" Vivi asked crankily.
"How do you communicate with the others?" Lucia asked coldly.
"Telepathy, obviously." Vivi rolled its eye.
"Is there a limit of how close you have to be to communicate?" Lucia continued.
"No, as long as we are in the soul world we can communicate freely, its only in the real world that we are limited by distance. Which is around five miles." Vivi explained reluctantly.
