[Jae Lim]
It turns out, their little doctor was hiding while the shootout happened with her personal party of guards. After Guanlin and Jihoon came down the stairs, the other men began to emerge from the shadows.
"Hey," I turned to Jihoon who was sitting across from me in the infirmary. He turned over from Guanlin's side. "If you had so many men, why weren't they out there fighting? You tell them to hide instead of fight?"
"They're some of our best men that are gathered here to protect us. We were outnumbered and their leader or whoever that guy was only wanted us two. If they put up a fight, we'd suffer some casualties on our side no matter how good they are, so it'd be better for them to trust us and hide for an opportunity to kill them."
"That's stupid. They should die fighting instead of hiding away like cowards," I grumbled. "If they did, I wouldn't have had to step in and get fucking shot."
"Language," the doctor lady scolded me, giving me a side-eye from where she was treating Guanlin.
"I get that you're bitter from being shot, but things were being handled even if you hadn't been involved."
"Handled? Did you forget that they had a knife to your throat and your precious little leader was shot? How is that handling anything?" The denial was ridiculous. "You get shot for some family you're not even part of and they don't even say thanks. All I get is a 'we had it handled.' Like shit you did."
Jihoon went to open his mouth but wisely kept it closed.
"You still have Dongmin's body? I need to make a call."
"The staff are cleaning up the mess, but I'm assuming they haven't thrown him out."
At his confirmation, I placed my right hand on my knee and stood up. When I was pushed back against the bed, I looked down at the old lady who held out an arm in front of her.
"Oh no you don't. You'll sit there until you've been treated." She shook a finger my way with a narrowed gaze.
"Better keep that waggling finger away from me before you lose it, grandma," I growled back, settling back on the bed anyway.
Guanlin went to jump in, face contorted with anger when she pointed at him to sit down. "You'll lose that arm before I lose my finger, boy. In the infirmary, what I say goes. Now stay there and let the others take care of whatever you want."
The promise of being served by their men outweighed her orders. Turning to Jihoon, I asked, "Bring me his body. I need his phone."
"What're you doing with his phone?" Jihoon asked with a tilt of his head.
"Clearly, I'm going to make a call. Keep up, will you?"
Jihoon returned my response with a roll of his eyes but called one of his guards to complete the order anyway. His guard, Yuan, returned with Dongmin's limp body and dropped it at my feet. Shoving my hand inside his suit jacket, I searched through his clothes for his mobile. Pulling out the Samsung, I grabbed his finger and opened the phone, scrolling through his contacts before I found one named Boss In Jii.
The phone rang twice before he picked up. "In Jii."
"Well, hello to you too."
"Who is this and why do you have this phone?" He growled into the phone.
"You've won the lottery, In Jii. You're talking to the one and only Kamau. Have you forgotten how to act decently?"
His breath hitched and I could only imagine that meaty face twisting into the most delicious fear. "Kamau...I didn't realize you were...I didn't know that Dongmin had run into you."
