Chapter 6
Midgard, 2012
It took me a while to trust Steve and feel comfortable around him, but during the past few weeks, he has been very honest, open and authentic. He told me all about his life before and after he went in the ice. He told me how he became a Captain, and that he fought during a war. He said that he lost the love of his life, Margaret, or Peggy as he calls her. I still do not understand how one is the shorter version of the other. He also told me everything about the best friend he lost, Bucky. For my part, I shared with him the story of how my father faked his death to come and invade Midgard, the Earth, as Captain Steve calls it.
He is now teaching me how to use what he calls a computer. It is supposed to have all the knowledge of Midgard. You only need to type a few words in this search box to have millions of things showing up on the screen.
"Do you want to try it?" He asks me.
I nod, knowing exactly what I am going to look for. I slowly type in 'the Hulk' and press the enter key. Lots of videos appear on the screen and I open the first one. It shows me a giant green monster smashing and killing people, destroying everything around him. My father was right, I need to be careful and not ever go near this beast.
"He's not that bad, you know," Captain Steve says.
"That is not what my father said," I reply, stubbornly.
"Well, to be fair, your father was trying to invade the Earth when he met Banner," he laughs, before adding, "I think that's enough computer for today, it's going to rot your brain. Now, I've avoided this question long enough, can you tell me about your powers?"
"I can show you a magic trick instead," I suggest, knowing that these mortals love magic tricks. "Now you see me," I say, pausing.
I wave my hands in front of my face before slowly fading away to become invisible.
"Now you do not"
The Captain gasps:
"That is awesome! Where are you now?"
I slowly make myself visible before creating an illusion of multiple Liv standing around him.
"I am everywhere!"
"That's impressive! I can't even tell which one is the real you."
I stop projecting myself around the room and Captain Steve looks at me, really impressed.
"That is not all," I say, before teleporting behind him, tapping on his shoulder, startling him.
I should not have done that, as he immediately throws me over his shoulder on the ground. I groan in pain as he says:
"I'm so sorry! That was a reflex!" he apologizes, "but I see you lack them, so what do you say I start training you in combat?"
I nod, excited to have a new activity to do during the day:
"That is fantastic! If I am trained in self-defence, does that mean I will be allowed to leave these quarters? When do we start? Can I have a weapon? I know my father had a scepter when he came down on Midgard, can I have it? Even a dagger will do, he had one as well!"
"See, Liv, it's because you say things like this that I can't allow you to leave the apartment without me. People around here don't just walk around with scepters and daggers," he says in an exasperated tone.
