Chapter 26

Earth, 2016

"You look stunning," Tom says as I walk to the entrance of the gym.

I look at my Asgardian dress, happy to have found an occasion to wear it. I grab the arm Tom is offering me, and we walk inside. We find MJ and Ned in the crowd and soon after, we start dancing. I'm starting to like these stupid primitive traditions. I almost feel like a true 18 years-old earthling. We're all having fun until we see Liz crying telling her friends:

"He left me. Why would he invite me to leave after 2 minutes?"

As she says that, Ned walks away quickly to go find Peter and MJ snorts. We ignore what just happened and keep dancing, excitedly waiting for Ned to come back and tell us what happened. However, Ned doesn't come back for a while, and when he finally does it's with a teacher.

"What happened," I ask, as he walks back to us.

"Nothing, it's all good," he replies.

But I know he's lying, because he keeps looking anxiously at either his phone or through the windows. I ignore his behavior for a while and keep dancing with Tom, until I see fire from afar, out the window. I decide that I've had enough, and go to Ned, who's looking at the window, pale.

"Ned, I've had enough, tell me where Peter is."

"What?"

"I know you know where he is, just tell me."

"Why would I know?" he replies, acting innocent.

"Cut the bullshit, which suit did he take?" I insist.

"What are you talking about?" he replies.

"I know Mr. Stark took his suit, and I know you know he's Spider-Man," I snap.

"You know too? Aw man, I thought I was special."

"Where is he?" I reply.

He sighs:

"Last thing I knew, he was at an old industrial park in Brooklyn. But he said something about 'moving day', and I'm guessing he's where all that fire is right now."

"Did you try calling Happy?" I ask.

He looks at me confused, probably wondering how I know about Happy.

"I did, but he hung up," he replies.

"All right, thanks for telling me," I say, taking out my phone to call Tony.

I had forgotten about it, but he's moving in the Avengers Facility today. Lucky me. Obviously, he doesn't answer. He's probably too busy with whatever it is he is doing. I try both Happy and Rhodey, but none of them answer either. As I see the fire getting bigger, I decide to just do it myself. I say goodbye to everyone, run to a bathroom stall, and teleport to the fire. I end up at Coney Island, and I see that Peter is currently tying a guy up with spider webs, before writing a note and leaving. He hasn't seen me. As he looks pretty beaten up, I worriedly follow him from afar. He climbs on top of the Cyclone roller coaster, and after hesitating for a few seconds, I decide to teleport next to him.

"Hi," he simply says.

"Are you okay?" I ask, gently.

"Yeah, don't worry."

"But I do worry, Peter."

He sighs:

"Is Mr. Stark always making you feel like this too?"

"Like what? Worthless? Not good enough? A total disappointment?"

He nods. I nod too and add:

"But he tries his best, though. He really does. What I tell myself to feel better is that at least I'm not Pepper."

He chuckles:

"I really thought I had this all under control, you know?"

I nod:

"But why didn't you tell me? I could've helped."

"I just wanted to show Mr. Stark I could do it myself."

"I'm so tired of all these lies and secrets. This is what is putting us in trouble. I lie to everyone I know, and it keeps causing problems. You kept secrets from Tony and look where you ended up. We should at least have each other."

"You're right, we should be able to at least count on each other," he pauses, "no more lies?"

I take a deep breath before admitting:

"I kept something from you."

He looks at me, waiting for me to go on.

"I came down on Midgard in 2012 because Thor, my uncle, thought it was what was best for my safety. The people on Asgard were afraid of me because they feared my father. I thought that by coming here it would be different, but turns out it's only worse," I pause as the memories of my time on Asgard rush back in.

I feel Peter's fingers intertwine with mine, giving me the strength to go.

"By keeping this a secret, I've lost everyone that truly counts for me and I don't want to lose you. This is why I'm telling you now, I am Loki's daughter, Princess of Asgard."
