Chapter 21

Earth, 2015

We're waiting in an airport's parking lot. Uncle Steve said he called reinforcement, so now we wait. A white van parks next to us and I see Clint get out of it. That's reinforcement? Uncle Steve gets out of our car, and I try my best to lower the seat and get out in a human way.

"Cap," says Clint.

"You know I wouldn't have called if I had any other choice," Steve states, shaking his hand as I see Wanda getting out of their van.

"Hey, man, you're doing me a favour. Besides, I owe a debt," Clint replies.

"Thanks for having my back," Steve says to the both of them.

"It was time to get off my ass," Wanda jokes.

I jump into Wanda's arms as soon as I finally manage to get out of the car, not knowing if Uncle Steve wants me to show my powers in front of Clint.

"How are you?" I ask her.

"Great now that I am not a prisoner in my own room anymore. What about you?" she replies.

"A lot has happened since we last saw each other, I'll explain everything when this mess is over."

I nod to Clint to greet him as he asks disapprovingly:

"What is she doing here? I'm not here to babysit."

Steve chuckles as I reply, vexed:

"If anything, I'm the one who will be babysitting you."

"Just show him," Steve tells me, so I teleport behind Clint's ear and say:

"Boo."

He jumps as Sam, Bucky and Wanda laugh, and Steve looks at me proudly, before asking:

"How about our other recruit?"

"He's rarin' to go," Clint replies, opening the van's door. "Had to put a little coffee in him... but he should be good."

"What time zone is this?" a man asks, getting out of the car.

He notices Steve and walks to him, impressed, saying:

"Captain America!"

"Mr. Lang," my uncle replies, seriously, shaking the guy's hand.

"It's an honor," Mr. Lang says, still shaking Steve's hand, "I'm shaking your hand too long," he adds, letting go of Steve's hand, "wow! This is awesome! Captain America. I know you, too," he continues, turning to Wanda, "you're great."

I tune out as this guy keeps talking and talking. I snap back to reality when I hear Sam tell the guy:

"What's up, Tic Tac?"

"What's a Tic Tac?" I ask Wanda, as they keep talking.

She laughs and explains to me what it is, when suddenly, sirens start blaring and Bucky tells us that they are evacuating the airport.

"Suit up," Uncle Steve says.

Great! I've been waiting for a moment like this. Wong and I have been practicing for a while, trying different costumes I could fight in. I decide to be dramatic and go all in, and make golden sparks fly around me, catching everyone's attention. I make them fall over me, and while they do, I rearrange my clothes' molecules to turn them into the uniform Wong and I picked.
