Chapter 18

Earth, 2015

"So, I guess this is farewell," I say, looking up at Uncle Thor.

He hugs me tightly and says:

"Do not fear, munchkin, I'll be back."

Thor spent the last few days with us, helping us move in the new Avengers Facility. They told me about everything that happened in Sokovia, and the new additions to the team, Wanda and Vision. They also told me about Pietro, he was so young, I kind of resent Clint, and they quickly mentioned not to talk about Bruce in front of Natasha, since they completely lost him. Sam moved in with us at the Facility, so it is now me, Steve, Wanda, Vision, Natasha, Sam, with Rhodes and Tony who sometimes come too. Thor hugs me one last time before raising his hammer in the sky as the Bifrost opens. Steve and Tony turn to me:

"We have a mission for you," Tony says.

"Great, I'm just gonna need a dagger and I'll be on my way!"

"Hold your horses, kiddo, you're not fighting anything," he continues.

"We just need you to talk to someone," Steve explains, "Wanda is feeling uncertain about staying here, and she has no one. Do you think you could just be a friend?"

I sigh deeply:

"That's not a mission, that's just being decent. But sure, I'll socialize."

Tony snorts and leaves, and Uncle Steve adds:

"Just so you know, we're asking you because if something goes wrong, you're the only one who can equal her powers. Watch out, she has suffered through a lot."

I nod before leaving. As I head towards Wanda's room, Vision stops me and drags me into an empty room.

"Hi! We haven't met yet, I'm Liv," I say.

"I know, but who are you, really?" he asks.

"I just told you, I'm Liv," I repeat, "Liv Rogers."

"Sorry, I'm just trying to understand. I'm wondering why I can't find anything about you before 2012. Before that, there is nothing that even mentions your name."

"Oh, that's weird," I say, slightly panicking, "anyways, I need to go, it was lovely meeting you," I add, before quickly leaving.

I'm gonna need to talk with Steve, but first, Wanda. Let's get this 'mission' over with. I knock at her door:

"Come in," I hear her say.

I open the door and she adds:

"Who are you?"

"I'm Liv, Steve's niece."

"Why are you here?"

I sigh:

"I'm going to be honest, Steve and Tony sent me here. They said you might need a friend."

She shakes her head:

"I'm good, thanks."

I sit on her bed, next to her, and say slowly:

"I'm very sorry about your brother. I know he was everything to you."

"He was all I had left," she replies, her voice breaking.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

She looks at me:

"I don't think you could understand. You're surrounded by all these people who love you, who care about you. All I had was Pietro. Everything we did, we did together. He was my anchor, and now I'm left with this power I can't even begin to understand."

"I won't pretend I can understand, but if someone in here can relate, it's me. I just want you to know that you can trust me."

"Why should I trust you? I don't even know if you're honest with me," she replies.

I carefully choose my next words:

"You can read minds, right?"

She nods, so I continue:

"If I show you my story, then, would you trust me?"

"You'd let me have complete access to everything that is in your mind? Why?" she asks, in disbelief.

"I would. I believe that if you are here, it means that the Avengers trust you, and I'd like to think they are right."

She hesitantly approaches her fingers to my temples, as I add:

"Just know that everything you will see in there, only Steve knows."

She nods before red sparks erupt from the tip of her fingers. I don't know how long it lasts, but eventually, she sits back on the bed next to me, saying:

"I wasn't always like this."

I stay silent, letting her continue at her own pace.

"Pietro and I, our childhood wasn't easy. We lost our parents to a bombing and had to hide under a bed for two days, while staring at a missile, right in front of us. We were waiting for it to explode, waiting to die. But it never went off. To be honest, the only thing I clearly remember from these two days is the big 'Stark Industries' written on the missile. After that Pietro and I volunteered for an experiment, we wanted to change the world. From these experiments, we're the only ones to have survived, leaving us with powers. Pietro had super speed while I have this," she says creating red sparks out of her hands. "Then, we thought we were doing the right thing by helping Ultron, but we were so wrong. This mistake cost me my twin brother, and now I'm all alone," she continues, her eyes watering.

"I'm really sorry you had to go through this. I know we're never going to replace Pietro, but you're not all alone. And his death wasn't your fault, it was Ultron's."

"And I'm so sorry for your losses," she replies, looking at me.

"Thank you, but don't worry about it. It was a while ago, and yeah, at that time, it felt the end of my world, but Steve, Tony, and Sam have been especially supportive, even though the last two don't know half the truth about me."

Wanda laughs, and we keep talking for a while, until I receive a phone call from Peter.

"I'm so sorry, Wanda, I have to take this, but if there's anything, I'm in the room next to yours."

I exit while answering to Peter.

"Hi, babe!" I say, joyfully.

"Ned, MJ, and I are going to hang out at the mall, wanna come?" he asks.

"Yeah, sure, I bet I'll be there before you!" I say, hanging up. "F.R.I.D.A.Y., please tell Tony and Steve that I'm going out, and that my socializing was a success!"
