Chapter 29
Earth, 2017
I'm on my way to Peter's because we made plans to spend the day together, but don't get to reach his place, as Wong appears before me:
"Liv, can you come with me?"
I nod, curious as to why he wants me to follow him, and I am surprised to see my Uncle Thor in the Sanctuary, speaking with Doctor Strange.
"Liv?" my uncle asks, "you know these Wizards?"
"Yeah," I reply, "Doctor S. and I are good allies," I add, jokingly.
The Doctor rolls his eyes and says:
"I thought you should be here for this."
As he says that, he makes a hole in the ceiling, and who do I see but my father, falling on the ground. I freeze, not understanding how he can still be alive, as he yells:
"I have been falling for 30 minutes!" he looks up to see me and adds, "Liv! Princess, it's been so long, how are you?"
I stare at him, without answering,
"You can handle him from here," Doctor S. tells Thor.
"Yes. Of Course," Thor replies, "thank you very much for your help."
"Good luck," Doctor S. replies.
"Handle me? Who are you?" Loki asks, offended, taking out two daggers.
"Loki," Thor warns.
"Wait," I say, loudly, "can someone explain to me why my father is alive?"
"I found him on Asgard, disguised as Odin, enjoying a play about his own death," Thor answers.
I slowly turn to my father, before blasting him across the room, yelling:
"I was on Asgard. I saw you. I talked with you! Why didn't you tell me?"
He gets back up, and smirks:
"I see you've been training."
"No thanks to you," Doctor S. replies, harshly.
"Who do you think you are? You think you're some kind of Sorcerer?" my father begins, walking aggressively towards Doctor S., "don't think for one minute, you second-rate..." but he can't finish his sentence, as Doctor S. sends him, I don't know where, through a portal.
Thor follows him, telling me he'll be back to explain everything.
"Did you know?" I turn to Doctor S.
He nods apologetically:
"I've known for a while."
"Why didn't you tell me?" I ask in a small voice.
"You had already mourned your father twice, Liv. I wanted to tell you, but after I learned that you went on Asgard and he lied to you, I figured it would be nothing but hurtful to you. I'm sorry."
"That's okay. Where did you send them?"
"If I tell you, you have to promise me you won't go."
I nod.
"I sent them to Norway, where your grandfather has been living for the past while."
"Odin was on Earth?"
"Yes, Loki hid him here when he took his place. I just thought you deserved to know he was still alive, now that he was on Earth."
"Thanks, I guess," I mutter, before teleporting in front of Peter's apartment.
"What's wrong?" Peter asks, as soon as he opens the door.
"Nothing, why?" I answer, noticing May in the background. "Sorry I'm late," I add.
"Don't worry about it," he replies, "let's go to my room."
I nod, greet May, and we head to Peter's room. As soon as he closes the door, he repeats:
"Now, what's wrong?"
I sigh:
"My father's alive."
"What?" he exclaims.
"He was on Earth just now. But now, he's gone again. Odin, it was him."
He frowns:
"What do you mean?"
"When we went on Asgard, even you found it weird how nice Odin was with me. It's because my father cast the real Odin on Earth, and took his place, without anyone knowing. That's also why he was missing his raven," I explain.
"I'm really sorry," Peter says, hugging me.
"So am I," I reply, as he lets go of the hug, "I always thought my father and I had simply been unlucky, and that's why I couldn't be with him. But this made me realize that he simply didn't want me by his side anymore. He could've told me; I would've kept his secret. I could've lived with him, as Odin, on Asgard. Or, at the very least, he could've visited."
"What happened exactly between you and your father?" he asks, as he takes my hand and we both sit on his bed.
"At first, everything was fine. It was just him and I, and my grandma. Thor was very different from how he is today. All he wanted was war and glory. And Odin didn't care. But then, everything changed, right around Thor's coronation. Thor was cast out, and my father learned about a secret Odin had kept from him, and that broke him," I turn to look at him, "truth is, my father isn't Asgardian, so I'm half Asgardian and half Jotun. Meaning half Frost Giant. Anyways, my father found a way to rule for a while, until Thor came back, and told everyone that my father had been trying to kill him. Long story short, they fought, and my father made everyone believe he had killed himself, by falling into space."
"That must've been terrible," Peter says.
"Not as terrible as when I was told he was alive, and invading Midgard," I reply, laughing bitterly. "Thor brought him back home, and they put him in a cell. By then, with all that happened, Thor and I were a lot closer. After that, I was sent on Midgard. I lived here with Steve for a while, until I was brought back on Asgard for my grandmother's funeral. Then, Thor broke my father out of prison, and I went with them as they were on their way to kill Malekith, who invaded London a few years ago."
He nods, remembering who I'm referring to, and asks:
"You were with them in London?"
I shake my head:
"No, my father pushed me in a secret pathway; the same one we used when I took you on Asgard, to take me back here. When everything in London was over, Thor came to see me, and said that my father had sacrificed himself, and died a hero, while they were in the Dark World. And since then, I thought he was dead. But no, he was living his best life on Asgard, disguised as the Allfather."
"I'm so sorry, Liv," Peter repeats, taking me into his arms.
"That's fine, I don't need him, or anyone else. I have you now," I reply.
