Chapter 16

Earth, 2015

"All right, I'm just gonna tell you one more time, to make sure you got it," Uncle Steve tells me.

He and Thor came back from their mission, and they have decided to officially introduce me to the Avengers during their victory party tonight. Thor wanted to tell them everything; that my father was Loki, and that I had powers, but Steve felt like it was better to take things slowly and begin by introducing me to everyone as his niece. That way, people will get to know me before assuming the worst of me based on who my father was.

"I'm going to introduce you as my adoptive niece. I took you in 3 years ago, after your parents died. Both of them were on the Index, so S.H.I.E.L.D. asked me to look after you, and with time, you became family. You have no powers, and you already know Thor, because you met him yesterday when he stopped by my place. You also already know Tony, because he looked after you when I was on the run from HYDRA. I talked with him, he's in on this story, and agreed to keep your true identity and powers secret for now. Also, you have never met Fury or Maria. Is this good, or should I go over it again?"

I roll my eyes, laughing:

"You've already repeated this seven times, and I understood it the first. So, I think I'm good."

Thor laughs, and I tell them that I'm going to go get ready for the party. I excitedly put on a dress, tie my black hair up in a high ponytail, and put on a little bit of makeup. I also put on earrings that match the bracelet Steve gave me a year ago, which I never take off. When I get out of my room, Thor and Steve are waiting for me, and I grab their arms before teleporting the three of us to the Stark Tower for the party. Once we get there, I start feeling a bit nervous. I stop walking and hold on to Steve's arm. He turns to me, frowning:

"What's wrong? You have nothing to be worried about, you already know Sam and Tony, and I think Maria is gonna be there. So that'll be another familiar face, as long as you act like tonight is the first time you meet her."

"No, I'm not nervous about meeting everyone, but... When you say 'everyone', what does that mean? Will the Hulk be there?"

They both start laughing:

"You have nothing to worry about," Uncle Steve tells me

"That's not what my father said, he told me to never be in the same room as him," I reply.

"You won't be in the same room as him, you'll be in the same room as Banner," Thor explains.

I nod and we walk in. A lot of people are already there, but I'm clearly the only one under the legal drinking age. Sam comes to us and hugs me:

"Hi, Liv! It's been a while, how are you?"

I greet him and talk with him for a while, before Steve says:

"All right, we're going to introduce you, now."

Thor gathers the Avengers and a few more people around, and says:

"Captain has an announcement!"

"Is he going to teach us how to use a better language?" Tony asks, as everyone laughs.

I didn't get the joke, but it looks like it was funny. Steve rolls his eyes and says:

"No, actually I've been keeping a secret from you all."

"What is it?" a woman asks, who I recognize as Natasha from when I saw her at the hospital.

"Well," Steve says, putting his hand on my shoulder, "I want you all to meet Liv. My niece."
