'What did we miss?' dad asks the empty room as we look at the scepter.

'I'll continue to run variations on the interface,' JARVIS said, 'but you two should probably prepare for your guests. I'll notify you if there are any developments.'

'Thanks buddy,' dad said as we walk out of the lab.

    'Enjoy yourselves,' said JARVIS.

'I always do,' dad said as we start walking down the steps.

I make a bee line for my room, having to get ready for the party. I hate them, yes, but that doesn't mean I can't look good. Even at fourteen. I have a big reputation to hold up. I race into my room and close the door behind me. I immediately go to my closet and look around. I grab a long white sleeve undershirt and a casual black dress. I then head into the bathroom and to the shower. I blow dry my hair, put on a little makeup, get dressed, put on some rings, earrings, and a necklace.

I look in the mirror. I decided to leave my hair down. My hair is straight and light brown, but the under half of my hair is purple, it has been since I got my powers. My blue eyes stand out, thanks to the mascara. I'm pretty short at 5'3 and my dad and I look similar. I don't know who my mom was, but he always says he's glad I got more of his genes, which always made me laugh. I throw on some boots and grab my phone and a book before making my way back downstairs.

'Maya!' Steve calls as I enter the living-room-type area. 'Look who's here.'

I turn to see Sam and Steve. 'Oh.'

'So, we're hanging out with a kid all night,' Sam said rolling his eyes.

'Don't get your hopes up, birdie,' I say, scoffing. 'I'll keep my distance.'

'I am not a bird,' Sam said.

'If you want to be called the Falcon,' I say, 'then I'm going to call you birdie. Because guess what, genius? A falcon is a bird.'

Sam scowls and Steve tries hard not to laugh. 'She's right, you know.'

'Shut up, Steve,' Sam mumbles under his breath.

'Have you seen my dad or Nat anywhere?' I ask.

'Um,' he says, thinking. 'I don't think Tony has made an appearance yet, but I think Nat is somewhere over there.' He pointed towards the big crowd of people.

'Wow,' I say resisting the urge to roll my eyes. 'Thanks. You've been so much help.'

Steve smiled as I walked deeper into the party. I try not to bump into anybody and I smile at anyone who says hi to me, even though I didn't really know them. I search for someone that I know. I get sight of the bar and see Uncle Rhodes there. I walk a little quicker until I'm next to him.

'Uncle Rhodes,' I say when I finally get there.

He looks over and smiles as he grabs a beer. 'Hey Maya. How are you?'

'Pretty good,' I say looking around. 'I would prefer to be anywhere else right now, but other than that, I'm good.'

He laughed. 'Have you seen your dad?'

'No,' I say shaking my head. 'I've only seen Steve and Sam.'

'How was your first mission?' he asks as we make our way to the couch. We sit down.

'Good,' I say nodding. 'We found the scepter. We also found two enhanced, but I only saw one.'

Nat appears out of nowhere and sits in the seat right next to me. 'Hey,' she said. 'Steve said you were looking for someone you knew.'
