The ride to the base was quiet. Sam and I didn't really know what to say. We'd been together nonstop for like two/three weeks. It wasn't until we got to my car, we finally had to speak.
'Thank you, Sam,' I said hand on the door of the car. 'For everything.'
'You still have a long way to go, Maya, but I hope you know how proud I am,' Sam said, sincerely.
'I know,' I said, smiling. 'Right now, I have some more relationships to mend.'
He smiles. 'Good. Keep in contact, kid.'
'I will if you do.' Sam nods and I got to get in the car but hesitate. I look back at him and smile. 'You did good, Cap. I'll see ya later.'
He looks shocked for about three seconds before his face breaks into a grin.
'Thank you,' he said.
I get in the car, and he waves me off as I head in the direction of home.
