Things are going to get complicated for a little bit but don't worry it will all work out. You've got to trust the ride.

It was raining when you bolted straight up out of your bed. You glanced over at the digital alarm clock on your nightstand as it read 3:43am the same time you woke up the two nights before. You pulled the covers off of you and walked into the bathroom squinting as you flipped the switch of the light on before looking at yourself in the mirror.

Deep black bags had formed under your eyes for the past few days from lack of sleep and emotional exhaustion you had been through over the past week.

A week ago you woke up in a lab on the edge of the city with no memory of the past two years of your life. When your eyes fluttered open you were greeted with Tony Stark and Steve Rogers looking over you like a lab rat. They knew your name but you had no idea who they were except for news articles and clips from the news. Two of earth's mightiest hero's.

you had discovered that your mother had passed but you didn't remember it and that you had solved your life's work but there was no reason to continue in the psychology research field if your mother wasn't here to reap the benefits. It was ironic though that your memory was now gone when Tony told you that he originally hired you to help with someone else's memory.

He tried pleading with you to stay at the compound but with a clean slate you could start your life over and after your time in the military you wanted to be as far away from the fight as possible so you found yourself an apartment in Brooklyn while you applied for jobs around the city.

Tony called and text you daily but there was nothing for you to discuss. Whatever job you did for him was over. You didn't even want to know the events that led you to loose your memory. You just wanted to be free.

It felt like the first time in your entire life you were free. Free from burden and expectations. From things looming over your head and deadlines screaming at you in the night. You poured yourself a cup of water before returning to your bedroom which was filled with moving boxes from your storage unit that still had yet to be unpacked and curled into your bed hoping you'd be allowed to get a few more hours of sleep before your interview in the morning.

Plenty of companies jumped at the chance to interview you as soon as they saw your education and military experience. You left off your time at the Avengers compound though, how does one say 'yes i worked for Tony Stark but i don't remember any of it' without looking crazy or damaged.

The next morning you sat in the waiting room of the Veterans Affairs office in your black suit waiting for the head psychologist to come and interview you. They had a position open for a Doctor and you jumped at the chance to be able to help people and who better than veterans who had seen war just like you had.

Someone you could bond with and maybe heal yourself as much as you'd help heal them.

"Dr. L/n" a man came through the door who you could only assume would be Dr. Watson.

Standing you gave me a small polite smile and stuck out your hand to shake him before following him back towards his office.

The office was plain, almost cold except for a bookshelf full of books and picture of his time in service. Metals in case littered the bookshelf and a picture of Dr. Waston shaking Tony Stark's hand was in a frame in the middle of the shelf. You didn't react to it but you certainly noticed it.

"Dr. L/n, your resume is quite impressive. MIT, Columbia, high ranking Captain in the Marine Corps, graduating in the top of your class in everything." He opened a folder looking over your credentials. "I see you have a level nine clearance too."
