_______________________For the first time in your life you stood in front of your half unpacked closet trying to debate what to wear to a coffee date. The only other relationship you had ever had didn't require you to wear cute outfits since you had both met on base and wore uniforms ninety percent of the time. But here you stood with clothes thrown all over the floor stressing over something so little as an outfit.
Finally settling on something simple you grabbed a pair of black skinny jeans that you prayed still fit and an oversized sweater before pulling on your converse and grabbing your purse. You didn't want to look over dressed for coffee but at the same time you didn't want to look like you just rolled out of bed.
You showed up fifteen minutes early a military habit you just couldn't kick and were surprised to see that James was already there waiting outside the shop for you.
His hair was pulled back and he had a plain black ball cap on with a leather jacket and dark washed denim jeans. He was easily the most attractive man you had ever laid eyes on and every bit of confidence you had was thrown out the window.
"Hiya." You immediately scolded yourself for such an awkward introduction.
"Good morning you look beautiful." He held the door open for you and motioned for you to go inside.
You weren't' sure if you were going to have to physically push down the butterflies in your stomach or not as your made your way to the counter and ordered your coffee and bagel. James's hand grabbed onto yours as you reached for your wallet to pay making sure he was the one to pay.
"You're a little old school huh?" You gave a small chuckle as you took your coffee from the barista and found a table by the window for the two of you.
"You have no idea." James almost mumbled.
The table grew quiet as you both sipped your coffee, your nervousness hung in the air before you cleared your throat clutching onto the mug and spoke.
"You said you were prior service, what branch?"
"Army. It uh, seems like a lifetime ago though."
You phone buzzed in your pocket and you hit the silence button but it just kept ringing.
"Sorry." You mumbled setting down your coffee mug and grabbing your phone out to see Tony Stark's name on the caller ID. The second you ignored the call it started ringing again though.
The phone screen lit back up with a series of text messages and you were shocked to see how quickly Tony's fingers could move.
Meet me at the compound if convenient.
If not meet anyways.
I need you to answer your phone.
Come to the compound.
"I'm so sorry this will just take a second." You shook your head texting tony back.
I'm busy and I told you I am uninterested in whatever position I use to have with you and the Avengers.
You didn't even have time to lock your phone before he had text you back.
Would you be interested to know that the man across from you is the one responsible for your memories being gone?
Your mouth flew open but you shut it quickly not wanting James to see your reaction. The cute guy who had just bought you a coffee was responsible for the current turmoil in your life the question you were asking yourself now was he a threat? Had he come back to finish whatever job he started?
