Wednesday
Indiana
PaisleeIt was barely past the afternoon when I went outside to soak up some of the sun's warmth and the breeze. Deen was washing up when I slipped out of the cottage and I was just walking along the court. Looking at the random picnic tables, green lawns, and perfect, white cottages that were lined up. I took a deep breath and sat at one of the tables that were away from the cottage Deen and I were staying at. I took a deep breath and watched the sun behind the barren trees. I missed spring dearly and couldn't wait for this cold spell to be over in Indiana. I definitely preferred Mississippi's weather.
Last night for Deen and I was refreshing. It wasn't filled with tension and for once, I didn't feel like I had a weight of information on my shoulders. I still wanted to give Deen space to think about anything else on his mind because I knew of all the changes that Deen and I went through over the past months. It wasn't like I even felt comfortable jumping on him but I still wanted to be courteous.
"Paislee!"
My closed eyes opened slowly and I turned behind me to a worried Deen. I stopped breathing in the crisp air and stood.
"What are you doing? You scared me," Deen said. "I was in the bathroom and then you were just gone."
He came closer and I saw that his hair was damp with water from his bath. The usually blonde strands were now brown and weighted down. He sat down beside me with a worried look.
"You're gonna' catch a cold, Deen. Get inside! Let's go," I said hastily, brushing my fingers through his hair.
He dodged my fingers from his head. "Why'd you come outside?"
"No reason. I just wanted some fresh air and sun. It looked really pretty out today, don't you think?"
"I mean, yeah, but next time tell me please? Got kinda' nervous."
I turned to his serious face and nodded. "I will. Sorry for scaring you." I smiled to settle Deen's worries and touched his cold hand below me. "Now we have to get inside because you are going to be sick as a dog with that wet hair."
"I'll be fine—"
"Nope. Let's go inside."
We both got up but before walking, Deen paused. He cupped our hands together and I didn't have the heart to even look at him. I was too nervous, too vulnerable in his presence.
"You can invade my space now," he said, a smirk playing on his lips.
I raised my eyebrows. "What?"
"I want you to invade my space now. You gave me a couple of hours to myself but I want you to invade my space. I'm not a dog that bites, I swear."
"You don't want that." I brushed off his words as I saw our cottage nearing us.
"Yes, I do." He pulled me into a close hug and stopped in the middle of the stone passage. I had no choice but to look up at him and it occurred to me that he was serious about me invading his space. "See? Isn't it nicer this way?"
