Paislee"Baby. . ."
"Wake up, sweetheart."
"I know you hear my voice, angel."
My heavy eyelids refused to open as I heard Deen's voice waft through the room. It was like I knew someone was calling for me, but my body wasn't responding. I felt Deen's body weight sink beside me on the mattress and shortly after, his hand was stripping off the sheets covering my shoulders. The cold air was exposed to my back and I whined into my pillow.
"There's my girl. Good morning, angel," Deen whispered as my eyes opened slowly.
"It's cold," I grumbled. "Put the covers back on, please." Winter was in full effect now and it was making me become overly attached to my bed and warm duvet.
"I got something better. How do my arms sound? Hm?"
Deen soon enveloped me with a bone-crushing hug. He dragged my body on top of his to the point where I felt the rough material of his uniform. I snuggled into him and attempted to rest my fatigued eyes.
"Why are you in uniform? What time is it?" I asked. I heard Deen chuckle in my ear before kissing my forehead. He just kept rubbing my arms soothingly without a mutter or a word. "What?"
"It's almost time for me to go, baby. You slept through the clock alarm and if I hadn't woken you up now, you would've still been asleep. Are you okay?"
My head lifted from Deen's shoulder in a rush. "You're leaving? It's already that late? I—I haven't cooked breakfast or gotten ready," I said.
"It's okay. Everything's fine." Deen rubbed my cheek. "Like I asked, are you okay? You've been doing this for two weeks nearly. I'm worried about you."
"I'm fine. I'm just tired."
Deen smiled shortly before bringing me into his embrace again. He mumbled I-love-yous and kisses into my neck before pulling away from me. He was ready to go and there was no time for hugging or conversing. I didn't want him to go. The thought made me pout and feel mushy inside.
"I have to go. I'll see you in the afternoon and we'll have dinner and talk then. Maybe you'll be able to muster up some energy later for me. That sounds good?" I nodded. "I love you so much, angel."
"I love you too. Have a good day."
Even though I was still in pajamas, I walked Deen to the door. He picked up his lunch and sipped the last drop of coffee within his mug. I felt bad that my fatigue had come in the way of my morning routine but Deen didn't seem too upset with me. Instead, he continued to rush to work, claiming that he had lots of work to do. He had been busy lately with something that apparently didn't concern me. Maybe I looked as bad as I felt.
