DeenIn order to fully maximize our time away from home, Paislee and I had spent a lot of time just getting used to being in each other's presence and talking more than we ever had. Not just mindless talks about the weather or the city, but watching what I said to Paislee and making sure we were talking with purpose. It gave me time to process my role in Paislee's feelings and to make sure I was being considerate as she did the same.
I missed talking to her the most. Something that seemed so simple was actually complex and it was calming to communicate with Paislee now. Today's plan was Paislee's idea and she begged me to go on a picnic with her so I had no choice but to oblige even if it was freezing here. She went as far as to wake me up with her whines and pleas as she hopped on top of me. It was a morning full of surprises, to say the least. We were in the car riding around the city trying to find the park that she had seen and requested a few days ago.
"It's so much colder here than Mississippi," Paislee said beside me, drawing a heart on the window through the frost. "See?" She asked proudly at her drawing.
"I do, very pretty," I responded sarcastically. She rolled her eyes and swatted my hand. "But yes, it really is much colder up here. I wasn't prepared when we first came here, remember? We had to do so much shopping the first month."
"Of course I remember. That first month was crazy. I felt like I was in a movie or something."
I nodded and tightened my hand against Paislee's leg for warmth. When I had finally found somewhere to stop my car in the city center, Paislee and I stepped out of the car.
"What do you want for your picnic menu, angel?" I asked as Paislee and I strolled around the streets. A lot of people weren't outside and since it was a little town, the city center wasn't that big.
"Hmm," she hummed. "Anything sweet. I saw a couple of bakeries the other day and soda shops as well."
"I should've known that was what you wanted. You eat too much sugar for your own good, you know?"
"No such thing."
"I'm not arguing with you today about your sugar intake. Instead, let's get your treats so we can get to the park because it's a bit of a walk. This morning it looked like there might be rain too so let's hurry."
Paislee nodded obediently and continued to walk. Every time our hands would brush beside each other, she would lightly grab onto my fingertips. When we had finally done a full lap of the area, Paislee decided on what she wanted. I ordered for her to wait for me and surprise her with treats while she busied herself with window shopping.
"I'll be back with goods in hands, okay?" I said to Paislee.
She nodded. "Okay." She let go of my fingers that she had been holding for a minute now.
