The weather was an inch off from being perfect, and looking at the glistening ponds, marshmallow-like clouds, and soft breezes, made my insides feel just as warm as the outdoor temperature.

Deen's thumb sneakily played with mine as he held my hand while driving. We were going to the lake today for a small swim—I would be wading through the shallow parts all day though. Deen's thumb engaged mine with a game of thumb-war and by his suppressed smile, he knew I was beating him. I held his thumbnail under mine for five seconds until he gave up and spread his warm hands to my thighs.

"Such a little tease, you know that?" Deen murmured with a roll to his eyes.

He made a smooth turn and the next thing I know, we were on a forest trail. The canopy of trees above us let small slivers of light into the car, and I looked down at the dark, velvety soil beneath our tires. The car began to slow and soon enough, Deen was parked in the middle of nowhere.

"Do you know where we are? Are we lost, Deen?" I fired questions rapidly.

"No, baby. I would never have us stranded. Calm down, would you? The lakefront is a little ways up but I can't park up there. You don't mind walking do you?"

"As long as you know where we're going, I'll follow."

We gathered our bags out of the back seat, which wasn't much other than water, snacks, towels, and sunscreen. We walked up the path, hand in hand until we spotted yet another small trail downhill to the lake. Deen warned me of rocks and held my hand until we finally were on solid land.

Before us, the lake glistened with the sun's rays, and small ripples formed as the wind washed against our bodies. The air was slightly damp as it surrounded my skin and I couldn't help but look around to see if anyone else was enjoying the lake other than Deen beside me. No one was here and my heart fizzled at the thought of Deen and I enjoying our summer fun all day.

"So. . ." Deen trailed off.

"So. . ." I retorted, turning my head to glance back at him.

I smiled and so did he. A pure moment of the sun on our faces and innocence in our eyes. The moment lasted for a second, and I didn't realize how it made me feel until I turned away.

"Let's lay our things down and get everything set up. You brought way too much sunscreen for only one day on the lake."

I shook my head in disagreement. "You burn easily."
