*jens pov*

I keep looking at the clock on the wall and listen to it tick. I'm in one of the classrooms on campus since you have to come in to take your final exams. This is my last exam, I've done pretty good on the ones I already did, so I have to do good on this one. This is the one that really matters.

I try to focus on the question I'm on, which I've read almost 6 times in my head. I was never a good test taker, and I'm still not.

I continue to try my best with this exam, and before I know it, the timer goes off. My heart drops, knowing that I still have 6 questions left. I hate that these tests are timed, it's setting us up for failure.

"Pencils down." The professor says and I sigh, putting down my pencil along with all the other students. "Fuck.." I mutter to myself as the professor comes around and collects everyone's paper.

I drive home on the phone with Sage, telling her how I probably just failed that exam, but she told me not to worry. She was supposed to take the exam today too but she's out of town so she has it scheduled for later in the week.

I get home and my mom asks how my final went. I lie to avoid any conversation and I go to my room.

I have to babysit for Sofia tomorrow while Leah's at work. Sofia's dad is gonna pick her up while I'm babysitting, so I won't be there as long as last time since I don't have to wait for Leah to get home.

I basically stay in my room for the rest of the day, until I get ready for bed then go to sleep.

It's the next day and I'm at Leah's house right now. I could've left a while ago since Sofia's dad already picked her up, but Leah got back right after they left, so I decided to stay and talk to her.

"So how long will Sofia be at her dads?" I ask. "Probably for the rest of the week." She says and sits beside me on the couch. "Does she miss school?" I ask. "No, her dad takes her. Which he complains about all the damn time, but that's what happens when you have a kid." She shrugs and I giggle.

Things get a little quiet and I rest my chin on my palm, observing her outfit. "You always look so nice for work." I say. She looks at me then looks down her body. "It's nothing special." She shrugs and looks in my eyes. "It is. You have nice taste." I say.

"Well thankyou. I always did like fashion, so every time I go out, I take that advantage to look like I have style." She shrugs. "Oh I know. Everytime I see you, you're always so dressed up." I say since it's true.

"Not always." She says. "Uh- yes always. I've never seen you in lounge clothes. You always look so put together. I look like a bum half the time." I say and she giggles.

"Yeah right." She shakes her head. We continue to have small talk, and she brings up a party she's throwing next week. It's not like a party party. It's obviously more like a dinner neighborhood party, not a house party. Of course I said I'd come, and my parents probably will too.

"And you don't have to dress fancy or anything." She lets me know. "You should tell yourself that." I eye her down. She rolls her eyes and I laugh.

"Oh yeah! I have a present for you." She says and stands up. "For me?" I ask. "Mhm. C'mere." She says and I follow her upstairs.

We go into her room and I sit on the edge of her bed as she goes through her purse. "I overheard you talking to Sofia about astrology, and you're a Leo, right?" She asks, turning her head to me. I nod my head 'yes', curious to what the present is.

She continues to go through her purse. "Well a lady at my work has a business, she sells jewelry, and I got you this." She says and turns around, handing it to me. I admire the little bracelet with the Leo sign on it.

"Smhhh what the hell

"Smhhh what the hell." I pout my lip and look at Leah as she's smiling. "I love it." I say and look at it again. She helps me put it on, and holds my hand up once she finishes, getting a look at it for herself. "Thankyou. I really appreciate it." I tilt my head. "Of course." She smiles.

"You should get one for Sofia. That little Gemini." I giggle and so does she. "That's a good idea." She agrees.

We go back downstairs and I get my stuff together since I brought my homework. "I'll let my parents know about your party." I tell Leah as we walk to the front door.

"Ok good. I'll see you then." She smiles slowly and tilts her head. "Thankyou again for the bracelet." I say. "You're welcome, Jen." She says, which is kind of nostalgic. I haven't been called Jen in forever. It was my nickname as a little girl that my friends called me. But I like it a lot better when Leah says it.

We say goodbye then I go home.

-

"We probably won't stay for long, you know how your father is." My mom says as she's putting her earrings in. "I know, that's fine." I say. "I'll probably stay a little bit later than you guys though." I tell her. "I figured." She says.

"Jesus ma, hurry up. You don't have to look all nice. This isn't one of your mija's gambling parties." I tell her "Well sorry that I like to look presentable Jennifer." She says and I roll my eyes.

"Are we leaving or what?" My dad calls out from downstairs. "That's what I'm sayin." I sigh and get off my moms bed. "I'll be downstairs." I say. "I'm coming, I'm coming." She says and follows behind me shortly after.

We go over to Leah's house, and there's already some people over. Sofia opens the door once I knock, and she literally jumps into my arms. "Hi babyyy." I say and hug her while I'm carrying her. "I missed you!" She says. "You saw me last week." I giggle. "That was forever ago." She says dramatically and I laugh.

My parents say hi to Sofia, then thy walk in and find a group of people they know. "Where's your mom?" I ask Sofia as she plays with my hair.

"Mmm, upstairs I think." She says and I set her down. "Alright, I'll be right back." I say. I go upstairs into Leah's room, and right when I walk in, her bathroom door opens. "Shit." She says to herself, bending down to fix her heel without noticing me.

She stands up straight again, flipping her hair back. "Oh my god-." She jumps and puts her hand on her heart once she sees me. "Sorry." I smile and say softly. "You always do that." She smiles and shakes her head.

I giggle and eye her down. "Jesus Leah." I roll my eyes. "What??" She asks and looks at herself worried. "You literally said not to dress nice, look at you!" I say and she scoffs.

"Leave me aloneee." She laughs and walks over to her vanity, grabbing a necklace. She puts it on herself, then makes sure she looks okay. "I should probably go be present at my party." She says and turns to me. "Probably." I agree.

We both go downstairs and eventually we separate since Sofia wants me to be with her. The night goes smoothly, everyone eats dinner and just chats. But my focus stays mainly on Leah. Even when she isn't talking to me.
