Chapter 12: Finally

Hyacinth

I couldn't get him out of my head.

That human.

Hindi pa rin ako makapaniwala sa sinabi ni Tegan sa akin. Hindi ko inakalang tao ang isang 'yon. Ang sabi ni Tegan ay nalaman niya agad na tao ito nang lapitan at mahalimuyak ang amoy nito.

"There are only two things that can happen if you bump into a human. It's either your death or his death," I remembered those words from Tegan.

Why? I don't get it.

I've never been fascinated by humans but... they seem pretty interesting living things. They can survive without drinking blood. Their depth is something only some low class animals possess. Still, they have the same appearance as us.

Fascinating.

I heard a knock on the door so I immediately closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep. Narinig ko ang dahan-dahan na pagbukas ng pinto. Not like you can wake up what's not asleep.

Someone let out a heavy sigh and I recognized him instantly.

He was about to shut the door when I jumped out of bed. Nanlaki ang mga mata ni Tegan at hindi na natuloy ang pagsara ng pinto. He looked bewildered while I was smiling.

"A-are you good now?" he asked.

I sat on the bed, still grinning.

Tegan looked muddled even more. Tuluyan na itong pumasok sa loob ng kwarto ko at sinarado ang pinto. Lumapit siya sa akin at umupo sa tabi ko.

"How's your feeling?" he questioned.

"Better now. Thank you."

He nodded. "Nakita ko nga pala ang Papa mo, Aya. Nasa gazebo. Bakit doon siya natutulog?"

My heart leapt on my chest by hearing the word Papa. Sobrang saya ko na andito na siya ngayon. Pinangako niya sa akin na dito na muna siya para bantayan ako. That's all I needed.

Until... that human entered the scene.

Humarap ako kay Tegan na halatang nagugulat sa kinikilos ko.

"About the human—"

"Ssshhh!" Mabilis na tinapalan ni Tegan ng kamay ang bibig ko. Saka siya mas dumikit pa sa akin. He was almost whispering when he said, "Forget about him. Don't mention about it."

Inalis ko ang pagkakatakip ng kamay niya sa bibig ko.

"What do you mean?" Tila nalipat sa akin ang pagkalito niya.

"Just listen to me, Aya." Tegan has never been this serious about a certain topic. "Kalimutan mo na ang Nakita mo. Mas makakabuti sa inyong dalawa 'yon."

I pouted my lips. "I-I can't stop thinking about him..."

"W-what?"

"Ano ang ibig sabihin ng sinabi mo kanina?" tanong ko. "What do you mean it's either my death or his? I don't get it. Last na 'to, Tegan. Please?"

He just stared at me for a moment. "Promise me, Aya. Kapag sinagot ko ang tanong na ito ay titigilan mo na ang pag-iisip sa lalaking 'yon o sa lahat ng nakita mo sa labas."

Tumango ako bilang sagot.

Huminga muna ito ng malalim bago nag-umpisa.

"As you know, we are not allowed to interact with humans, right?" he paused as he waited for my nod which I immediately gave him. "There are only two thing that can happen if you bump into a human."
