Rose's POV:
The Great Mare's injured body laid meters away from me. She was motionless and in pain. Scars and cuts covered her body, and silver blood oozed out consistently. I ran over to her and knelt down to get a better look. My eyes began to fill up with tears and I knew I wouldn't be able to hold it in. I felt the water from my eyes, drip onto the unicorn's idle state. My hands trembled as I touched her, and my heart felt like it broke into a million pieces.
The unicorn told me something, that no one ever knew. She revealed that indeed she had a name. She didn't want to be called "The Great Mare" all the time so she had me give her a name. I named her a name that no wizard, creature, or spell could ever conjure. Her name would then be Faith, the Great Mare, the one every unicorn knew as a hero. She did everything in her power to keep her fellow creatures safe, and served as one of the protectors of the Dark Forest, along with Firenze the Centaur and Fluffy, who only recently had been brought up to the third-floor due to the stone.
"Faith...I'm so sorry" I cried hopelessly. "I knew something happened to you, from the minute I saw the hooded-man. I should've warned you or done something....I could have saved you."
I continued to cry as my friends and brother walked over to the scene, kneeling down with me. Hermione also had tears in her eyes, and the boys both had saddened expressions as well.
"Rose...I....What happened to her?" Hermione asked putting a hand on my shoulder.
I was struggling to find the words to answer her. I was completely choked up and nearly lost it, but I faced her and told her the truth.
"The night of the detention...another unicorn unlike the one you and Harry saw....she.....her name is Faith....this is the one....the Great Mare I told you about....she...she was attacked by that bloody thing." I then did something I never thought I'd ever do. I wiped away the last of my tears and stood up off the ground. I looked down at Faith once more before I paced around the forest. A sudden urge of power erupted in me(this part is important. It will be explained later on :]) and a huge green colored spiral appeared around me. I clenched my head which was currently under excruciating pain. I couldn't take it anymore. So I did one thing to let it go.
I cried out a scream. Not just any scream. A scream so painful and so agonizing that the toughest of individuals would feel in their hearts. My emotions flustered and shook all through my body. I felt like a bird without wings; one that had been removed of its rights to be free. Stuck in a cage, only the sounds of my own voice could be heard within the area. And then I felt a tight squeeze.
Not from Hermione, not even from Harry, Ron wrapped his arms around me. He hugged me and just stood there, motionless and peaceful. My brother and Hermione were frozen in place from the heartbreaking scream, but Ron seemed to know what I was feeling. Anger, pain, sadness, worry, anxiety; anything that prevented me from being who I usually am. None of my friends ever saw this side of me, yet Ron, of all three, was able to stop it.
Ron then said something that I had never forgotten for the rest of my life, the reason me and Ron became such amazing friends, the one that began a bond of a lifetime:
"The pain....it hurts. I know it does..." he whispered as he hugged me. He then looked at me with surprising tears in his eyes as well, "But you have to be strong Rose...stronger than you have ever been. I was stupid to think you were not strong. But I see it now...Harry helped me realize it. You are the strongest of all of us and need to stay strong...otherwise, we'll all fall apart. Without you, this friendship we all have, it would mean nothing." He smiled before hugging me once more. He then grabbed my hand and brought me back over to Faith's weakened body.
He released his grasp and spoke a few words; "Hello Faith. I'm Ron Weasley.....I um...am a friend of Rose and I just wanted to thank you for everything you've done for her. Whatever it was, It has made her very strong. She definitely isn't the girl she was at the beginning of the year because of you. And you really were a cool unicorn as well. I would have loved to get to know you better...but things...change...so I hope this change happened for a good reason."
Hermione and Harry gained inspiration from Ron's speech and made their own.
Hermione stepped down to the unicorn, and used every bit of courage she had to speak on behalf of me. "Hello Faith. I am Hermione Granger...and....I just really want to say how happy Rose was when she would see you. You gave her a sense of comfort anytime you would see each other, and she would always return with such a positive energy. So please, rest for all you can, because you definitely deserve it. Farewell Faith.....be well."
Hermione stood up and stood next to Ron.
Harry walked over next to me and looked down at the poor creature. He looked at me before making his statement: "You know, Rose, you truly have grown from who you were in the beginning of the year. And because of that, I am super proud. As her brother, I feel I need to say a bit extra just to be fair to her and to Faith....a mentor and great friend to my sister. Faith, you have made my sister the best version of herself and because of that....I feel happy and proud to say that...I greatly respect you for all you have done for her. She is my best friend and I would do anything for her, and if I could turn back time(*wink wonk* no Time-turner in this book unfortunately) and save you from him...I would...in a heartbeat. Thank you, Faith, for everything."
I smiled slightly at him before beginning my memorial. I found myself kneeling down once more, I grasped my necklace out of habit and placing my hand on Faith's body. This time, however, the necklace began to glow. It shimmered and lit up in my hand, gathering bits of scattered light from around the room. The light gathered and flew into the stone, emitting shadows of animals and creature wisps around the room. The forms of green and blue ghosts went into Faith's body and caused her to disappear completely into my necklace. And all was still.....it was over....and Faith was gone, just like that. All that was left was an empty corridor, and the four friends, alone and in utter shock.
